Covers Prehistoric horse mustang two chapters on hunting grizzly and bighorn sheep then hunting men and wild horses the vowboy navaho pony indian pony and role of the mustang in the winning of the west Indian pony horse in Custer fight author's and publisher's note. In FINE condition with original glassine glassine has one long tear in rear but is still present 100%. In addition: this book is INSCRIBED nicely by Leigh and dated is also contains the EXTRA plate laid in and that plate is also signed by Leigh with large tissue guard for the plate. There is also an invitation laid inside from the Gilcrease Institute to attend the dedication and reopening of the Leight studio. Finally there is a purchase receipt from 1983 from Tom Minkler dealer in western art and art books for purchase of this SIGNED LIMITED EDITION. There is no limitation in the book but Howes bibliography of western americana says that only 100 copies were printed. Truly a super collector and collector condition copy. Huntington Press hardcover

Book produced which showed everything on exhibition at the Vienna sporting exhibition. Hundreds of text ill plus many full page photogravures with tissue guards. A monumental work on European game. Text in German. The binding is gilt stamped suede. 14.5" high 11 inches wide. The front cover has deco gilt vertical rules and pointers to the right side of a stag head the spine has the same rules and the stag skull and the rear board is the same except that it is the left side. Deco end papers. This is a very rare item. Internally near fine. The corners are slightly rolled but the rest of the cover is vg showing that this has been well cared for. See all images. 19365961New York: Elliott Service 1936. No Binding. Fine. Siemel Sasha A FABULOUS piece of ephemera. Exceptionally large original news photo featuring Sasha Siemel the well known jaguar hunter especially noted for hunting these big cats armed only with a spear. Sasha was also an accomplished boxer. There is also a large photo featuring Siemel and his hunting clients. There are three photos along the top of a live jaguar cub in a tree. The photo of the clients Mr & Mrs Jennings from Ohio with their amazing NINE jaguar skins in the background and Siemel off to the side. Their hunt lasted two months and the skins ranged up to NINE feet in length. They were used as banners as a sales come-on at newsstands during the time obviously to get people to attend his lectures. The original photos were taken by Elliott Service and the entire piece is dated Dec 26 1936. The lovely wooden frame measures 26.5 inches high by 23 inches wide. Bottom banner is 16.5 x 6 inches. The incredible photo of the hunters and their trophies is 8 inches wide by 6 inches high. And the three inset photos of the jaguar cub are each 9 x 5 inches. They have been individually and attractively mounted to make a lovely display on board then matted and framed. In very fine condition. We have never seen anything like this before. Author also wrote A Sporting Trip through Abyssinia. Author for many years held the record for the largest set of tusks ever taken by a sporting elephant hunter. He has more trophies in the early editions of Rowland Ward record books than any other hunter. This his rarest book contains all his early hunting adventures when he pioneered in opening up new hunting country throughout eastern Africa. Much on elephants. One of the best books on the subject. 1933ABC_45905Cambridge Mumbai New Delhi: Scott & Wilkinson Clifton & Co Hamilton Studios and Kinsey Bros. 1933. Oblong half morocco photograph album by W. Johnson & sons London. With 105 photographs mounted in the album ranging from 16 x 28 cm to 4 x 6 cm 2 photographs loosely inserted and a watercolour mounted at the back 11.5 x 21 cm. Unique photograph album showcasing the vigorous "fox" hunting scene in British India in the early 1930s particularly around Delhi. Most of the photographs show members of the British upper class in India often mounted on horses or posing for a group photograph and accompanied by hounds. The album contains no titles captions or inscriptions and the photographs do not seem to figure recurring individuals which suggests that it was probably compiled to commemorate the hunting and or riding club and its activities in the early 1930s. Numerous photographs show groups of mostly men posing with hounds at lunches and possibly a hunt ball or mounted on horses at jumping events and even a few cup trophies. The very first photograph is by Scott & Wilkinson in Cambridge active before 1933 and was therefore probably taken in England. The other inscribed photographs are by Clifton & Co. and Hamilton Studios from Bombay and Kinsey Bros. which started in New Delhi in 1935.British life in India mirrored life in native Britain and included popular equestrian activities such as hunting. Starting in the second half of the 19th century foxhounds were imported from Britain and subsequently bred in India. Regiments and brigades kept their own packs but at the beginning of the 20th century these had morphed into local hunts. Hounds were kept at over 12 hunting clubs which included Delhi Meerut Narbuda Vale Jaora Poona Bombay Bangalore Ooty Madras Lahore Quetta Peshawar and Karachi. Although the Indian silver fox was sometimes hunted the most common prey was the golden jackal.A different type of hunting popular in India was pig sticking: the chase of a wild boar on horseback with the spear. Several photographs in the album show pig sticking parties either posing or in action and sometimes accompanied by spectators on elephants. In contrast to the jackal-hunt parties the pigstick groups are composed of more military looking men and also include Indian men as opposed to the British-only hound groups.Most photographs show the area around Delhi and include a hunt near Shah Alam's Tomb. A photograph of this event is loosely inserted in the album and dated 1933/34 on the back. Other photographs show the Rashtrapati Bhavan one group shows the Earl later Marquess of Willingdon India's Governor-General from 1931 to 1936. Two images show the monumental Gateway of India completed in 1924 in Bombay Mumbai which can also be seen in an aerial photograph. Several photographs show what is probably the airfield at Karachi as it shows two airplanes loading mail on apparently the first voyage of the Indian Transcontinental Airways. Imperial Airways liner "Hanno" departing from Croydon had left for Karachi on 1 July 1933 via Bahrain and Sharjah. In Karachi the cargo was transferred to the Transcontinental airliner "Arethusa" as can be seen on the photographs.It is unclear why only half of the album was used. It is possible the compiler transferred to Kut in British Mesopotamia Kut al-Imara in modern Iraq. A watercolour on the final page of the album is captioned "A river bank north of Kut".Binding slightly rubbed and worn at the edges. Album leaves foxed throughout but most of the photographs in very good condition. The paper of the large photograph of the group near Shah Alam's Tomb is heavily damaged at the top and left side but the image itself is undamaged. A unique collection of British-Indian hunting photographs in very good condition.l Cf.
