Joan of Arc has inspired many people though the ages through her own inspiration by angel voices that she a young country girl was capable of great achievements commanding her to lead the disheartened Army of France to victory over the invading and much superior forces of England. Because of her independent religious zeal however and despite having successfully carried out her mission she was brought before the Holy Inquisition found guilty of heresy and burned at the stake in front of Rheims Cathedral. This play captures the intense drama of the powerful aura of that short but powerful life. EDITION LIMITED TO ONLY 30 NUMBERED COPIES ALL BEAUTIFULLY PRINTED IN TWO COLORS ON FINE LANA WOVE PAPER. With five fine plates four of which are colored by hand depicting Valentin. WITH AN AFFECTIONATE SIGNED INSCRIPTION FROM VALENTIN TO BIBLIOPHILE RAOUL MORLIER for whom this copy was printed originally someone else's name was printed as the recipient of this copy but Valentin blacked that name out and wrote in Moulier's assuring him in the description that the other name was a mistake. Folio. Contents loose as issued in a wrapper made of very thick handmade paper with an embossed portrait of Valentin on the cover and a board folder with a window designed to reveal the embossed portrait. Contents FINE AND BRIGHT; wrapper with a dampstain visible mainly from the back; board folder a bit worn and discolored. Quarto. 110 mimeographed leaves printed on the rectos only in screwbound blue Studio Duplicating Service wrappers titled in gilt. Small neat handwritten control number "#21" on titlepage plasticized wrappers are lightly rubbed first and last leaf a bit age-toned very good or better. Issued for an intended production of the musical in New York in the 1974-75 season featuring Julie Harris the impending production created excitement being the first of his plays the French playwright Anouilh allowed to be set to music. Harris had co-starred in the non-musical version of the play with Edna Best and Eli Wallach. However the production with Julie Harris never came to fruition although the musical finally opened on February 7 1977 at Playwrights Horizons in New York City and ran for a grand total of two <br /> performances. Rare. OCLC appears to locate a small number of scripts for the non-musical version but no copies of the musical. This copy incldues all the lyrics but not the music.
