Nickel studied at the Institute of Design and tragically died when part of the decaying Chicago Stock Exchange a Sullivan and Adler project collapsed on him in 1972. A fine copy in a very near fine dust jacket. Signed and inscribed by Cahan and Williams on the title page: "To Joe who keeps the I D flame alive. Richard Cahan and Michael Williams." The recipient was photographer Joseph Sterling who studied at the Institute of Design in Chicago under Harry Callahan Aaron Siskind and Frederick Sommer. A nice association copy. Hand-stenciled by various hands including Gregory McMurray. Halftone screen from Cathy and the raster-farians at Boxcar Press. There is a REVOLVOING map on the opening page showing the location of the Five Spot Cafe in the East Village of NYC the map highlighted in yellow and red. The text "A Night at the Five Spot" first appeared in "Down Beat" magazine on February 13 1964 and has been anthologized with various textual questions unresolved several times since. The text for this printing has been corrected. The article shows its age in geographic description citing "collectors' book shops." replacing secondhand clothing stores. Now those "collectors' book shops" have been replaced by more upscale shopping venues.
