This set were effectively file copies retained by one of the founders and some have significant wear. 51 total issues from Volume 3 No 1 Spring 1981 through Volume 28 No 1 Spring 2006. It would be difficult to put together a set of these again. Most issues were circulated just within the Society and are rarely seen in the marketplace. Wraps. The Zeiss Historica Society was founded by Thomas Schreiner Charles Barringer Jr. and as noted in some of the society's journals Lawrence J. Gubas. Subcribed to by Zeiss enthusiasts all over the world the "objectives of the Society are the study of and exchange of information on the significant products and innovations of the Zeiss companies from their inception to the present." The Society was able to publish much interesting scholarly material on many aspects of Zeiss drawing on personal member collections as well as individual research. With the approval of the modern Zeiss firms Zeiss Historica also re-issued a few historic catalogs sent as premiums to members.<br/><br/>A worthwhile run of an important scholarly journal. A two book set both volumes of which are in fine condition within a near fine paper covered clamshell box with a minor split at the lower fore corner of the box. The primary volume in this set is in bright red cloth covered boards with gilt text on the spine and blind embossing on the front and rear boards. The end sheets are illustrated paper. The second volume is printed heavy red paper wraps over an adhesive binding. Both are octavos measuring 9" by 5 1/2". The Christmas 2007 issue by MeadWestvaco which is the 50th and last volume in Westvaco's` annual American Classic series. 478 pages of text in the primary volume which contains short sections from the 49 previous limited edition volumes. The smaller secondary volume contains 40 pages which is a compilation of color photographs of each of the 50 volumes and a summary of the bibliographic features of each volume in the series. The Portuguese artist at time of publication was living in San Francisco and a good many photos reproduced here were shot here; he was especially taken by SF's gigantic directional signs reading "Birds" "Ground" et cetera.
