198931768New York: New Museum of Contemporary Art 1989. First edition. Spiral bound soft cover. Fine. Designed in a complex format consisting of several dozen pages of various sizes and many color ills. The description here is based on external information because this copy has never been opened for inspection--its bound-in belly band is intact. Exhibition catalogue presenting the work of 29 artists including John Cage. Texts by Gary Indiana Martin Meisel and Laura Trippi; also an interview with James Welling. "Strange Attractors explores the relationship between contemporary art and the emerging science of chaos which identifies and develops the patterns structures and systems that define the rhythms of daily human experience" Meisel. Although the belly-band text begins mid-sentence there is no reason to believe this very fine copy is not as published. The belly-band states in part "With its reliance on computer simulation its themes of discontinuity unpredictability fragmentation and chance chaos science at once participates in and provides models for describing a more widespread shift in the realm of culture." Within a worn envelope that was used for a Museum of Modern Art publication relating to Michael Tracy's 1987 exhibit "Terminal Privileges / Privilegios Terminales."
