The first paper is illustrated with 8 plates and 448 text figures as well as two double-page maps. The second paper is a fascinating study of the Apache Medicine-man illustrated with 6 color plates and 20 text figures. Carman providing the descriptions of the industry to the East and H. A. Heath and John Minto those to the West. This extensively-illustrated work fully documents the history of breeds in the United States the woolen industry from 1600 to 1800 the dissemination of Spanish Merino wool throughout New England and its eventual decline husbandry of the Middle and South Atlantic states Western Pennsylvania West Virginia Ohio Indiana Illinois Michigan Wisconsin Kentucky Tennessee Mississippi Alabama and Florida. Western states detailed are Montana the Dakotas Wyoming Colorado Utah Minnesota Iowa Nebraska Missouri Kansas Arkansas Texas New Mexico Arizona California Oregon and Washington. The work was prepared under the direction of D. E. Salmon Chief of the Bureau of Animal Industry. He writes in his letter of transmittal: "Taken as a whole this report can not fail to be interesting and valuable to every owner of sheep. It will give a broader view of the industry its magnitude and the methods which are most likely to bring success in conducting its various branches." The lithographs include breeds of sheep views of ranches and work scenes. Included are scenes of western and Texan sheep ranches. Government Solicitors Post Office Box No 38 Washington D.C. are swindlers and to take such means as may be necessary to stop their thieving operations."<p>It is unspecified what the fraudulent actions of Randolph and Company fraudulent involved however contemporary records suggest that the firm may have preyed upon furloughed patients at train stations in some manner while they traveled to their homes.
