In the story Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Passepartout attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days on a £20000 wager set by his friends at the Reform Club. This version is translated from French by Geo. M. Towle. It has 54 illustrations as originally issued by Osgood. It seems to have had production problems that caused the spine to crack and chip when the book was read; consequently no 1873 copies have been seen in better than good condition p. 42."
