The deluxe edition in red cardboard slipcase; issued without dust jacket. 114 pp. Charming collection of Perrault's fairy tales originally from 17th century France 1697 and first published in English in 1726 with translation by Bierhorst. The title tale is a version of "Cinderella'. Familiar stories "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Sleeping Beauty" are included though the endings are different that more modern versions as well as odder tales like "Bluebeard" . These early French tales are much more like the later Grimm's tales than Andersen's with the touch of gruesomeness intended to keep readers and listeners on the straight and narrow.
