When he died suddenly and his body was found to contain arsenic she was arrested and tried for murder along with 70-year-old schoolmaster Joseph Meilhan to whom she had given a minor pension. They were acquitted because of insufficient evidence the traces of arsenic in Lacoste's blood may have been due to treatment for syphilis. Very scarce.
