Mottled leather with triple-rule border dentelles marbled endpapers edges gilted over red stain giving a coppery effect. All text pages are bright straight and clean. The gilted edges are a bit dulled as is the gilt-stamped spine. Corners bumped and worn; there is a gilt rule on the very edge of the boards and it is rubbed or broken in numerous places. Overall vg despite the wear on the binding. Engraved frontis and title vignette; different from the vignette in the Valade-Cazin edition published later the same year. A poem outlining the author's philosophy of outdoor design this book was terribly popular and went through many printings and translations very quickly.
