We note that an earlier edition of this work with a register of plates notes 45 plates but it appears that one plate Astron. IV was deleted from this New 1743 Edition as this copy shows no evidence of removal in the binding gutter and the lettering of adjacent plates V W is sequential without omission. Lacks front flyleaf a few period notations inked on main title contents with scattered internal notations. The Book First Appeared In 1772 And Then Went Through Six Reprinting Before Being Revised And Expanded In 1800. Mozart Owned A Copy Of The Third Edition 1779 Possibly Acquiring It When He Passed Through Augsburg The Home Of His Cousin Basle In January 1779 Or More Likely Later When Living In Salzburg Or Vienna. Mozart Held On To The Volume Until He Died. Bötte & Tannhof First Century of German Language Printing in the USA 610. The author Christopher Schultz was a leader of the group of Schwenckfelders that settled in Pennsylvania in the 1730s. They were followers of the German theologian Caspar Schwenckfeld von Ossig 1489-1561 one of the earliest promoters of the Protestant Reformation in Silesia. In his writings he opposed war secret societies the taking of oaths infant baptism and the establishment of denominations. In Very Good Condition: small scrape on back board larger on front board; light crackling to leather but joints are solid; corners lightly rubbed; occasional foxing and soiling; a few pages have darkened much more than the rest; otherwise clean and tight.
