General Order No. 10 reads The garrison of this post has been ordered to other stations. Before the severance of ties which will always be a pleasing memory to him. The commanding Officer wishes to thank officers and men for the cordial support and assistance which they have given him. In thirty-seven years he has never been associated with better soldiers or more agreeable comrades. It seems probable that our country will soon require our services on the field of battle. The flag which we love - the flag carried to victory on many fields by Americans - by our fathers - will be as bravely borne by you and your grateful countrymen will honor your patriotism and devotion to duty. By order of Lieut. Col. Kellogg Signed E. H. Plummer 1st. Lieut. 10th. Infantry Adjutant." <br /> <br /> On a historical note the Commanding Officer General Nelson Miles sent a telegram to Lt. Col. Kellogg now at Rush Springs. Kellogg sent Capt. W. CF. Brown & his troop of the first Cavalry back to Fort Sill to quell a suspected uprising by Geronimo & the Apaches. Geronimo is recorded saying "I am a U.S. soldier. I wear the uniform and it makes my heart sore to be thus suspected." All was calm in a week. Testimony of Capt. Edward Hinkley Plummer. Finely bound in full brown crushed morocco elaborately gilt decorated borders with red accents and gilt dentelles with the Spanish royal coat-of-arms in gilt and red on both covers t.e.g. Rubbed along upper joint else a near fine copy. Bookplate of A.J. Cox to front pastedown. <br /> <br /> Really a nicely executed and elaborate binding of this text which relates some of the events leading up to the Spanish American War of 1898. Alfred J. Cox was a Chicago master book binder and collector and we would guess this book from a Chicago publisher was perhaps bound by Cox himself. It is listed in Catalogue of the Sumptuous 'Attic' Library of the late Alfred J.Cox which was sold at auction by the American Art Association in New York 1918. This title along with several others from the series by Latimer are listed as bound in full levant morocco in various colors #608. A nice example of American fine binding at the turn of the century. Bindings present quite well despite some minor abrasions to the leather and a chipped head of the spine to the first volume; contents are heavily foxed and toned throughout; early 20th century owner name in pencil on half titles early owner's wax stamp monogram on each title page. <br /> <br /> Manual of diplomatic customs procedures and formulas apparently published for the market in newly independent Latin America where diplomatic relations with foreign powers were just beginning. This may well have been the standard manual for Latin America's first ambassadors and consuls in Europe. The two of three volumes present cover such diverse topics as diplomatic missions secret missions types of diplomatic agents credentials public behavior prerogatives e.g. immunity ceremonies length and ending of missions correspondence acts of abdication declarations of war and many other matters. Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre also called Bernardin de St. Pierre 19 January 1737 Le Havre 21 January 1814 Éragny Val-d'Oise was a French writer and botanist. At time of publication Llorente had been living in France for a number of years - having identified with the French Bonaparte when the alliance between Spain and France collapsed in 1808. Very good. - A 10-1/8 inch high by 5-3/8 inch wide broadsheet playbill for the Boston performance of the "French Spy or - The Fall of Algiers" starring Isabella Cubas. The credits with her name are boldly printed on the top third of the sheet followed by an overlay boldly titled with the name of the play "The French Spy" printed on 2-3/8 inch high by 5-3/8 inch wide sheet followed by a list of the cast and concluding with the opening play "To commence with the Laughable Farce entitled Somebody Else!" This overlay is tipped over the title of another performance by Isabella Cubas "Queen of Pantomimists and Unrivaled Danseuse" in her "Third Appearance in the Unparalleled Representation of Protean Character supported by the company and auxiliaries. New Scenery and Appointments! New Dances Marches &c." Another overlay listing the prices of admission printed on 1-1/2 inch high by 5-3/8 inch wide paper is tipped over the title of the farce. The playbill is mounted onto heavier 10-5/8 inch high by 7-1/8 inch wide cream stock. There is some minor darkening and soiling. Very good.</p><p>The Spanish ballerina danseuse and pantomimist Isabella Cubas 1831-1864 performed as a soloist in Madrid when she was 13 years old. Having appeared in prominent Spanish theaters and performed in Turin and Milan before she was 20 she was honored by Emperor Francis Joseph and his court at the Gello and Teatro San Benedetto. She then toured Venice Bucharest Odessa Alexandria Cairo Brussels Paris and London. She joined Ambrogio Martinez's Spanish Dance Company at the Royal Theater of Madrid and was the prima ballerina assoluta at the Naum Theatre in Istanbul. Following appearances at most of Europes' top opera houses she made her debut in Canada and performed in New York and Philadelphia before touring America with a full corps de ballet. She first decided to attempt pantomime acting performing in The French Spy at Nixon's Cremorne Garden on October 6 1862. Exterior shows some spotting and toning with the worst issue is some tears around the spine edges. The top has a tear of about an inch the bottom has a larger tear along the spine edge that measures about 3 inches on the front cover with a smaller tear on the back. The string held binding is still intact in the pages are clean with the exception of some light foxing. There are no signatures or bookplates no handwriting no library markings none of the interior text pages have tears. This is a very rare government publication in the only date present is on the last page which states October 1879. <br/> <br/> Government Printing Office paperback

The contents comprising 20 finely hand-coloured engraved plates on thick paper depicting various regional costumes with printed titles above and beneath with blank protective leaf between each plate. The plates irregularly numbered as they were originally issued as part of the 'Modes Parisiennes' periodical. A very good copy the binding firm with a 2cm tear to the head of the lower cover creasing to the corners and a little chipping to the spine ends and corners. The contents with the occasional minor finger-mark to the edges of the blank margins are otherwise in very good order the plates remaining clean and vivid. A selection of beautifully hand-coloured engravings illustrating regional costumes of Algeria Spain Italy Portugal Greece and Eastern Europe issued by the French fashion periodical 'Modes Parisiennes'.
