Latin script medicines with partly print letterhead and addresses are in Ottoman script. 2 p. Pharmacy stamp on verso. Chipped on margins weak extremities slight stains on paper. A good paper. 1311 AH dated and then dated 1937 in another stamp. It's written Yanko's surgery clinic opposite the Kanaat Publishing House at the Sublime Port. Dr. Yanko of Bafrais one of the Ottoman / Turkish historians who carried out political essays literary stories and translations as well as books and manuscripts he wrote about medicine as a physician. Also known as Bafrali Orduluoglu Dr. Yanko worked at the Bab-i Vâlâ-yi Seraskerî Hospital and he was a member of the Cemiyet-i Tibbiye-i Osmaniye which was established in 1867 and operated as a medical association of the period. Turkey Association is now known as the Academy of Medicine. The name Yanko of Bafra is mentioned in the 1867/1911 records of this organization. He was in the publishing board of the first pediatrics magazine published in Turkey titled 'Emraz-i Pediatri' and who agreed his patients at the number 22 in Mahmudiya Street office retired from being a doctor lieutenant colonel and died in Istanbul on 28 December 1936. In addition he wrote his travel memories titled 'Yozgat Seyahatnamesi' published in 1889 AH 1306. Source: DR. First published in 1752 it was until the twentieth century regarded as "the most elaborate and valuable of all the critical editions of the New Testament" Orme. Edited by the scholar Johann Jakob Wetstein 1693-1754 a scion of the Amsterdam printing family who produced Gerhard von Maestricht's New Testament of 1711 the original edition includes the editio princeps of two pseudepigraphic works ascribed to Saint Clement of Rome which survive in Syriac. At his native city of Basel in 1713 Wetstein defended a thesis on the various readings of the New Testament. "After collating MSS. in various libraries he at length obtained in 1733 a professorship in the Remonstrants’ college at Amsterdam in succession to Le Clerc. In 1730 the Wettstein press published his Prolegomena anonymously and in 1735 he edited for the same firm a revision of G. v. Maestricht’s Testament. At length in 1751-2 he produced the critical edition at which he had been labouring for many years. Perhaps in deference to the opinions of his friends Wettstein did not print in his edition the text of Codex A as he seems at first to have intended or a recension of his own but merely reproduced the Elzevir text with very few variations. Immediately below however he indicated the changes which he considered absolutely necessary from which it is easy to construct ‘Wettsteins’s text.’ Nearly all these proposed changed -- which according to Reuss number 159 -- had appeared in previous editions and are generally accepted do-day. . Below this matter stands the critical apparatus the most elaborate which had yet been published giving innumerable variants and citing as authorities for and against these a vast body of witnesses -- MSS. versions early fathers and printed editions. Wettstein introduced the practice of indicating uncial MSS. by roman letters and cursive MSS. by arabic numerals. In the revised and enlarged Prolegomena preceding the text which give some account of his labours and controversies Wettstein displays a marked antipathy to all the earliest MSS. which he suspected of having been corrupted by the Latin versions. The Animadversiones at the end of vol. 2 are more temperate and possess higher value. A distinctive feature of the book is the commentary printed at the foot of the page. This forms a curious treasury of notes illustrating both the matter and the language of the inspired writers by copious extracts from all kinds of authors -- classical patristic and rabbinicâ€. A rare and historically interesting typescript letter signed by Vasileiadis editor of the Greek-language minority newspaper Apoyevmatini published in Istanbul addressed to the Electric Company. In this letter Vasileiadis voices a formal complaint regarding the discriminatory exclusion of Apoyevmatini from a discounted electricity rate campaign extended to other members of the press highlighting the unequal treatment of minority publications despite their longstanding contributions to the city's journalistic and cultural landscape. Apoyevmatini was originally founded through a partnership between Konstantinos Vasileiadis who held the publishing license and Odysseas Krystalidis the owner of the printing facilities and an experienced figure in newspaper distribution. The first editor-in-chief Kavalieros Markouizos served until 1927. He introduced the newspaper's enduring motto a quote from Victor Hugo: "New epochs bring new missions." This phrase aptly captured the spirit of the era reflecting the profound transition faced by the Greek community in the wake of the Ottoman Empire's dissolution and the rise of the newly established Republic of Turkey. In 1927 Grigorios Giaveridis succeeded Markouizos as editor-in-chief a position he held until his death on 1 August 1979. <br/> <br/> Typescript - Apoyevmatini unknown

'Here for the first time in the history of orientalist scholarship is a complete critical edition of the Kitäb sirr al-khaliqa The Book of the Secret of Creation in its Arabic text; it is also titled Kitab al-'ilal The Book of the Causes. A separate study of the tradition of the text together with a German abstract is planned to be published in the series Ars Medica. Together with the Tabula Smaragdina which originally had its place at the end of this treatise the Kitäb sirr al-khaliqa was one of the best known and most influential treatises in Arabic and Latin medieval alchemy and cosmology. Long ago this book was correctly identified as a spurious work of Apollonius of Tyana. No Greek predecessor is known and the Arabic text in the present form was probably composed around the time of the caliph Ma'mun A.D. 813-833. In many respects the Kitab sirr al-khaliqa resembles the Book of Treasures by Job of Edessa: like it the Kitäb sirr al-khaliga sheds a good deal of light on the broad spectrum of often rather crude explanations of the natural phenomena human physiology and pyschology and philosophical problems that provide the fertile soil for the growing scientific movement in the Islamic culture of the early ninth century. More specifically this Arabic text is of enormous interest for the study of the development of a scientific terminology in that language. The edition is mainly based on four manuscripts representing the most archaic recension and chosen from among seventeen that were examined out of some forty known to be extant. Even the critical edition of the Latin version prepared by M. T. D'Alverny and F. Hudry was consulted in a first draft. When we further consider that the editor had to write the 702-page Arabic text with all the variants diligently by hand the reader cannot fail to feel grateful for an amazingly well-executed contribution to the carly history of Arabic science.'
