A firm of long standing and excellent repute Philadelphia Rare Books & Manuscripts was noted for their emphasis in early books and Latin American imprints. The proprietors issued an important contribution to early American printing: 39 Books and Broadsides Printed in America before the Bay Psalms Book. Title continues: Being the Five Hundredth Catalogue Issued by Maggs Bros. Booksellers." Maggs celebrated its 500th catalog with bibliographical fireworks displaying the wide range of their riches from illuminated manuscripts to a Napoleon letter to the first Greek Aristotle 1495-98 plus 19 Americana. When I obtained this there was beginning the damage typical of such a large and heavy book.
