Printed above neatline in top right corner: "Echelle dont chaque division est de 100 Toises"; outside neatline on vertical edge at top right corner: "Echelle dont chaque division est de 72 Toises". "Toises" is an old French unit of distance: about six feet. On left side is a legend indicating by number where the 10 Quarters and 46 Provisions are in Brussels. Below that is a numbered listing of 60 "Renvois des Chifres" in Brussels that can be found in the map. Several vertical folds and one horizontal fold. Map cut is close to neatline on right side. General even age-toning to paper. Dime-sized stain in upper left margin. This is the fold-out map from Théodore-Augustin Mann's "Abrégé de l'histoire ecclésiastique civile et naturelle de la ville de Bruxelles et de ses environs; avec la description de ce qui s'y trouve de plus remarquable." Bruxelles Lemaire 1785. Translated title: "Abridged ecclesiastical civil and natural history of the city of Brussels and its surroundings: with a description of its most remarkable features."<br /> <br /> The 1785 date is significant as it captures Brussels just before the Brabant Revolution and the subsequent French occupation 1795. Maps from this nature are prized by historians for showing the city's fortifications and street layouts before major 19th-century industrial redevelopments. Lemaire unknown
