Complementary cloth to the remainder of the boards. Rebinding is undated and contains the content of the orginal textblooks from 1824 also in very good condition for their age. The new binding follows the arrangement of Darwin's work in volumes but retains the original pagination therefore pages 1-204 contains The Economy of Vegetation and The Love of Plants. Following on under pages 1-100 is The Temple of Nature. Finally a number of plates are included; The Beautiful Cupid The Fertilization of Egypt The Portland Vase and Tartarian Lamb The Portland Vase plus Handle and Bottom of the Vase Sections of the Earth Sections of the Strata at St Anthon's Colliery and four further Botanical plates. The boards are in fine condition as is the marbled pageblock. Four pencilled references noted on rear original free paper. The initial pages and the plates at the rear are notably tanned foxed and marked but the text within is in extremely good condition; clear bright and generally unmarked; minor and occasional foxing only. Erasmus' Colloquies are a collection of dialogues or skits on a wide variety of subjects which began in the late 1490s as informal Latin exercises for his own pupils. The first official version of 1518 was described as "a collection of formulae and conversational passages." Notable for its insightful commentary on various aspects of human life and society the work showcases Erasmus' wit and humor. With sections addressing topics such as manners education and theological debates often through sparkling exchanges between different characters. Written by Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus commonly known in English as Erasmus a Dutch Christian humanist Catholic priest and theologian educationalist satirist and philosopher. He is considered one of the most influential thinkers of the Northern Renaissance. Translated by Nathan Bailey an English philologist and lexicographer. Edited with notes from Rev. E. Johnson. Sir Erasmus Wilson 1809-1884 a pupil of Hebra distinguished himself first in anatomy and was elected member of the Royal College of Surgeons but soon decided in spite of the prejudice against specialism in England to devote himself to dermatology. His contributions were many. He described trichorrexis nodosa erythema nodosum universal exfoliative dermatitis. His outstanding nosologic feat here was the assembly of the various manifestions of lichen planus into the category of a single disease; this he first described and named 1869. His suggestions of the addition of benzoic acid as a preservative for ointments introduced benzoated ointments. His chief works of the Skin 1842 which went through at least six editions. His writings on the care of the skin for laymen were credited with having made the bath popular in England. His observations and original suggestions his able writings and particularly the sanity with which he applied his comprehensive knowledge to the practical problems of dermatology made him one of the great dermatologists."
