In the publisher's original cloth binding.With a coloured watercolour frontispiece and many monochrome plates and vignettes illustrated by the author and other artists. This book vividly depicts the various outdoor activities and sights one can find Parisians doing at the turn of the century told largely through the author's own anecdotes and observations. With four leaves of publisher's advertisements to the rear. F. Berkeley Smith often explored Parisians and French culture in the early 20th century particularly Bohemian Paris with his other works including 'How Paris Amuses Itself' and 'The Real Latin Quarter'. In the original cloth binding with tipped-in illustration to the front board. Externally very smart with mild rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Slight fading to the spine cloth. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with a small tide mark affecting the top corner of the first few leaves. The Free University allowed students to register for "any number of courses" for a one-time registration fee of $10. Instructors worked on a volunteer basis; among the subjects offered were self-defense dance beekeeping body massage yogurt and "theory of orgasm" though not included in the catalog we imagine the practicum must have been interesting. With a printed snipe on the verso along with the stamp of Culver Pictures photo bureau a date stamp of "Dec 1939" and manuscript annotations regarding layout. <br /> <br /> Rooney and Garland sing "God's Country" from the finale of the musical in a scene spoofing Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and the FDR's fireside chats. This scene was cut from the film after Roosevelt's death and believed lost until it was rediscovered and restored in 1990s. Rooney received a Best Actor nomination for his role in the film. <br /> <br /> 10 x 8 inches. Very Good.
