182034916Reading PA 1820. b/w frontispiece engraving 12mo. 142 pp. Never mind the text this is what they did in Germantown before the History Channel started playing those endless reruns of the Nostradamus Phrophecies. Its the first American edition of an apocalyptic treatise originally printed in Germany in 1814. The translation of the title begins The Seven Final Trumpet Blasts. and it was clearly intended to scare the bejeesus out of 19th century German-Americans. The wood engraved frontispiece depicts the Antichrist as a beast with seven heads and ten horns. But its definitely coming up our of the ocean so it must be a sea serpent too. Bound in calf over marbled boards worn. Text and frontispiece lightly tanned but clean. unknown books
