Presentation Inscription from Sachs to Italian-American artist Pasquale Giovanni Napolitano 1901-2001 on the title: "With compliments to P. G. Napolitano Herman Sachs 1926." Napolitano's signature on the front free endpaper. With: Sachs Hermann. 22 sheets of his original drawings for Mollier's work in 2 gatherings of 12 and 10 sheets plus circa 65 torn fragments of anatomical drawings on tissue in manila envelope addressed to Mrs. P. G. Napolitano. Pencil and colored pencil with captions in ink. Gatherings measure approx. 310 x 240 mm. Some smudging marginal tears in several leaves. Very good. First Edition. Mollier trained at the Munich Anatomical Institute eventually becoming its director. He taught the Institute's anatomy course for artists for over four decades and in 1924 published his Plastische Anatomie "a sophisticated groundbreaking work . . . which even today makes its claim to leadership not only for art students but also for medical professionals. Epoch-making were Mollier's precise functional analyses of the movements of the human shoulder girdle the opening movement of the mouth and the structure of the anterior abdominal wall" Deutsche Biographie; translation ours. Hermann Sachs the illustrator of Mollier's work was one of the leading German Expressionist artists of the first half of the 20th century. He spent the 1910s in Munich where he founded the Munich School of Expressionists and no doubt became acquainted with Mollier. He moved to Los Angeles in 1925 and designed the interiors of many landmark Los Angeles buildings including Union Station and the Los Angeles City Hall. Sachs presented this copy of Plastische Anatomie along with the accompanying original drawings to another well-known Southern California artist Pasquale Giovanni Napolitano. One Mounted Photograph Is Signed "Merry Christmas. Herman Sachs 19-27"; Another To P. G. Napolitano Herman Sachs 1927" Pasquale Giovanni Napolitano Was An Apprentice Later Employee Later Friend Of Napolitano And They Worked Together On Such Buildings As Los Angeles City Hall And Bullock's Wilshire. Another "To P. G. N. Palaro Sachs. 1927". Palaro Was Possibly Sach's Spouse. Born In Romania To Jewish Parents Herman Hermann Sachs Immigrated To The U.S. As A Child. He First Trained Under His German-Born Father A Painter In The Court Of Queen Elisabeth Of Romania. Sachs Continued His Artistic Training In Europe Spending The 1910-1920 Period In Germany Where He Founded The Munich School Of Expressionists Munchen Expressionist Werkstätten. Upon Returning To The United States In 1920 Sachs Exhibited At The Art Institute Of Chicago And Established The Chicago Industrial Art School Which Soon Failed Due To Lack Of Sufficient Funding. Afterward Sachs Became The First Director Of The Dayton Museum Of Fine Arts Now The Dayton Art Institute. During This Time He Also Served As The U.S. Representative Of Artist George Grosz. Around 1924 Sachs Moved To Los Angeles Where He Designed The Interiors Of The New Gas Company Building. As A Muralist And Decorator Sachs Went On To Design The Interiors Of Many Los Angeles Landmarks Including The Bullocks Wilshire Building Now Home To Southwestern Law School Union Station Los Angeles City Hall And The Title Insurance And Trust Company Building. An Educator As Well As An Artist Sachs Also Directed The Creative Art Students League Of Los Angeles. Sachs Was Active Within The L.A. Weimar Exile Community Of Artists Writers And Filmmakers. His Friend The Architect Rudolph Schindler Designed Sachs' L.A. House The Manola Court Apartments. Herman Sachs unknown

His Scientific Work Includes The Proposal Of A Unified Field Theory That Brings Together The Weak Force Strong Force Electromagnetism And Gravity. Sachs Earned His Bachelors At The University Of California Los Angeles He Then Moved To Columbia University New York For Postgraduate Study. While At Columbia Sachs Was Taught By Willis Lamb And Hideki Yukawa.5 Yukawa Had Agreed To Be Sach's Thesis Advisor But Sachs Decided To Complete His Doctorate Back At Ucla. Following The Award Of His Phd In 1954 Sachs First Post-Doctoral Position Was At The New University Of California Radiation Laboratory At Both Berkeley And Livermore Which Was Run By Edward Teller And Ernest Lawrence And Was Also Home To Bryce Dewitt Who Sachs Would Later Co-Author Articles With In Physics Today. In 1956 Sachs Became A Senior Scientist At Lockheed Missiles And Space Laboratory While At Lockheed Sachs Began Developing With Solomon Schwebel A Field Theory Of Quantum Electrodynamics That Included Broken Symmetries That Did Not Require Recourse To Renormalization Or Perturbation Techniques - The "Schwebel-Sachs" Model. In 1961 He Became A Research Professor At Mcgill University; This Was Followed By A Post As Associate Professor Of Physics At Boston University 1962-1966. In 1964 While At Boston University Sachs Received An Invitation From Paul Dirac To Visit Cambridge University. Sachs Stayed In England For Three Months Where His Wife Yetty Had Family. Sachs Worked With Paul Dirac At The Department Of Applied Mathematics And Theoretical Physics Cambridge University. While Working With Dirac Sachs Also Had The Opportunity To Discuss Ideas With John G. Taylor John Polkinghorne And Graduate Students At Damtp. In 1965 Sachs Had Had A Breakthrough While At The Aspen Physics Institute Colorado. Sachs Was Able To Derive A Result For A Unified Field Theory If Quantum Mechanics Was Considered To Be A Linear Approximation For A Field Theory Of Inertia Expressed In General Relativity.
