There is damage from a spill from the start to page 320 in the lower margin adjacent to the gutter this is mainly confined to the lower margin but pages 265 to 272 have loss of text in the lower gutter corner. Nevins et al p. 200; Broadfoot p. 487Albert Richardson 1833-1869 was a New York Tribune reporter who travelled to the battlefields to report on the Civil War and was captured as a Union spy at Vicksburg in 1863. After 20 months imprisonment he escaped from Salisbury prison and together with fellow journalist Junius Henry Browne travelled 400 miles through hostile country to safety reaching the Union lines in January 1865. The book ends with the words and music to 'A Song for the "Nameless Heroine" Who Aided the Escaping Prisoners' by B. R Hanby. American Publishing Company unknown
