Fantasioso romanzo scritto e illustrato da Albert Robida visionario nelle sue anticipazioni del futuro come in questa rocambolesca narrazione d’avventura affine a quelle del celebre connazionale Jules Verne omaggiato fin dal titolo. L’edizione originale francese apparve nel 1879 in cinque parti Le Roi des singes Le Tour du monde en plus de 80 jours Les Quatre Reines À la recherche de l’éléphant blanc S. Exc. M. le Gouverneur du Pole Nord raccolte in volume unico nel 1882; la prima edizione italiana per Sonzogno nel 1884 fu come le successive dell'opera completa.
