The print consists of 2 woodblock illustrations one depicts yellow berries on colorful fans floating on swirling black & white water with white leaves the other is of colorful geometrical shapes & leaves. Annotations in Japanese calligraphy are printed at the right of the top illustration and above the bottom image. Stab marks along the right edge of the print not affecting the images would indicate that this print was once bound. There is some slight soiling and creasing to the bottom edge of the print which does not affect the image. A beautiful and delicate color woodblock print mounted with archival corner mounts into a 14 inch high by 10 inch wide mat. Circa, [1910]. unknown

19321822n.p. 1932. Good. A nice collection of five original artist's fashion mockup sketches probably created for catalog use. All are executed in a combination of pencil ink and guache onto thick blind stamped "Strathmore Drawing Board" with three boards measuring 23 wide x 29 inches tall one 17 wide x 29 inches tall and one 14.5 wide x 11.5 inches tall. All are works in progress having both artist and production notes date and time stamps soil especially verso and multiple finger prints from much handling and use with the occasional pin hole and one sketch having some paint splatters and an 1-1/2 inch closed tear to the foot - not affecting image. With the rubber stamp of "Robert Simpson Company" to one sketch and others with date stamps of 1932 and 1933. A study of the creation process of a 20th century fashion artist as seen through their sketches portraying some of the hottest emerging fashions in the early 1930's. Designed for the Robert Simpson Company a successful department store chain founded by Robert Simpson in 1858. unknown

NOISBN . spine slightly turned a bit of dust-soiling to top edge a couple of lightly bumped corners one-time owner's address label on front pastedown; jacket moderately edgeworn spine browned small chip at top of rear panel; jacket a teensy bit shorter than the book apparently made that way. "A novel of protest written by a young apostle of revolt against the present system of education in the colleges." Although the author is not identified by gender the book seems to have a definite feminist slant telling of the travails of a young graduate student teaching Freshman English while dealing with "the undercurrent of malice and politics" at the university. She finds that "the departments are run by old men who have lost touch with the students" and feels herself "powerless to defeat the red-tape and apathetic disregard of the older men." Neither the city nor the specific university in the book are identified but add the Chicago imprint to the description of the school "on the shore of the great lake in the broad Middle-West" do the math and get back to me about where YOU think it is. The author of the 1962 study "The College Novel in America" speculated that the book was "possibly by Zoë Flannagan" but gives no indication who the hell "Zoë Flannagan" might have been. Old folds paperclip stains in the margins the paper is well-thumbed with small tears and creases but is overall supple and very good. Complex literate and detailed sex story about a man who meets a beautiful foreign woman in a park in an American city and is brought back to a luxurious abode where to his surprise he is called upon to pleasure the woman's lovely friend repeatedly and in a variety of ways. He later wakes up in the park and thinks he has dreamed the encounter but discovers a gold watch has been left in his pocket as a gift. The following day the events are repeated but this time with his friend and the beautiful foreign woman joining in. Spoiler Alert!: when they are thrown over after the dalliance the men learn that the young woman was the princess of a European country soon to be a queen and that she was visiting America for a last fling in anticipation of her upcoming wedding to the crown prince of another nation and that her companion was a countess who traveled everywhere with her as a chaperone.<br /> <br /> Porn of this sort was made exponentially more common when American servicemen gained wide access to mimeograph machines during WWII but this is a typed manuscript and our best guess is that it predates the War. Little from the text indicates the possible age of the manuscript. An OCLC and broad internet search locates no copies although admittedly OCLC is an insufficient source for tracking this sort of material. Possibly unique. unknown

Hardcover. a nice clean copy with only minor shelfwear to book; the jacket has a triangular piece torn away at the top left corner of the rear panel and is modestly faded on the spine panel and along the left edge of the front panel. Valentino's utterly fascinating if utterly bogus memoir-from-beyond-the-grave presented in a series of thirty-four portentiously-titled "entries" e.g. "The Eleventh Entry." Purportedly ghost-written by Samuel Roth the book opens with the "Last Entry" Valentino's purported account of the sudden onset of his final fatal illness then proceeds into more or less standard autobiographical mode. There's a good deal about his romance with and marriage to Natascha or Natacha if you prefer Rambova nee Winifred Hudnut which is regarded by many Valentino fans as one of the more unfortunate choices-of-partner that he made during his short life and meteoric career -- although R.V. rebuts this view in The Twenty-Third Entry in which he addresses the rumors that she was controlling manipulative etc. According to dead Rudy she was "a woman of the highest culture with a sane and judicious mind and I know she is loyal to my interests and that she thoroughly knows motion pictures" and that he "would indeed be a fool" if he ignored her advice. Given how well she comes off in this account I don't think we can discount the possibility that Natascha herself might have been behind its publication. . William Faro, Inc. hardcover

One sentence underlined otherwise clean internally. An early pamphlet issued by Alcoholics Anonymous containing important doctrine from the organization's early years. The first sentence provides the motivation behind the present pamphlet: "The purpose of this booklet is to show how thousands of us who were once hopeless alcoholics have recovered from our malady. We have found a way of life which no longer compels us to drink. Alcoholics Anonymous is the great reality which has expelled our obsession." Later in the introduction the organization dispels any notion of complicated requirements for membership: "The only requirement for A.A. membership is an honest desire to stop drinking." The pamphlet also prints passages entitled "Am I an Alcoholic" "The Doctor's Nightmare" "The European Drinker" "Women Suffer Too" "Bill's Story" "Medicine Religion and Alcoholics Anonymous" "The Twelve Steps" "Our Friends Say" and Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick's review of the famous "Big Book" Alcoholics Anonymous which had been published just four years earlier.
