These volumes were printed before Hugo's exile and before he wrote Les Misérables. The set includes poetry novels plays and essays such as Notre-Dame de Paris Cromwell Hernani Ruy Blas and Le Rhin. Near Fine bound in 19th-century quarter navy morocco with marbled boards raised bands and gilt spine decoration and marbled endpapers. Each volume is octavo with clean text and firm bindings. There is light foxing throughout. The set includes 34 steel engravings each with a tissue guard. This edition is listed in Vicaire III and Carteret I. Schleiden giebt an für diese Ansicht in einem Zapfen von Pinus Ma welcher an der untern Hälfte männliche an der obern Hälfte weibliche Blütben trug welcher also wohl mit den Zapfen die den Gegenstand des vorliegenden Aufsatzes bilden viele Aehnlicblteit gehabt haben mag eine glänzende Bestätigung gefunden zu haben ohne jedoch die Saeche näher auszuführen. A magnificent and important letter to Léon Richer one of the first male feminist activists considered by Hubertine Auclert as the ""father of feminism"" and later regarded by Simone de Beauvoir as its ""true founder"". An important early work on female equality first published in 1843 in Reid's native Scotland under the title "A Plea For Women". He was closely connected to the Hugo family not only to Victor but also to his son Charles and to Adèle Foucher. During his stays in Brussels it was at Berru's home that the exile from Guernsey regularly stayed with his wife who died there of a cerebral congestion on August 27 1868. A. Bibliotheca van der Linde-Niemeijeriana:5957 First edition.<br /><br />The Wiener Schachzeitung an Austrian chess magazine published in German which was one of the great magazines of chess ran from 1898 through 1916 and then from 1923 through 1938. Originally founded in 1855 by Ernst Falkbeer but was only published for nine months. In 1887 it enjoyed a rebirth but even this publication lasted only nine months. In 1898 Hugo Fahndrich Alexander Halprin and Georg Marco re-established the name again. As time went on Georg Marco became the sole editor and even the publisher. Marco edited the magazine until 1914 and during that period it became the best chess magazines in the world Golombek:342. When it was renamed in 1923 it was called the Neu Wiener Schach-Zeitung and was edited by I R Wahle and A Lewitt; however within a year it had recaptured its old title and in 1926 another great editor Albert Becker took over. With the German invasion of Austria it ceased publication. An attempt to revive it after the end of World War II failed. The witty pen of Hans Kmoch gave distinction to the magazine and every now and then he would edit a faschings carnival number that was genuinely funny.<br /><br />Condition:<br /><br />Rebound corners bumped some age darkening to pages else a very good copy.
