Each piece depicts oneʼs experiences with love and nature through the various seasons of life. Two poems are cheerful in nature and the other five are melancholy. The subject of each is love and the music of nature and the songs take the listener on a journey through lifeʼs seasons: the bustle of spring the sunny days of summer a rainy fall day and the barren landscape of winter. Although Moeranʼs settings are folk-like they use parallel fourths and fifths to achieve more dissonance in the harmony.<br /> Oxford University Press paperback books
