Anglo-Irish Gaelic scholar and critic Percival Arland Ussher 1899-1980 was renowned for his wit combined with critical insight "Thirty years ago to praise James Joyce was an act of daring; today it needs an almost equal daring to criticise him.". Ussher believed that none of these great writers could be understood without reference to their Irish background. Later he was a champion of J.P. Donleavy and wrote the Introduction to the American edition of "The Ginger Man." This is a Fine copy of the Second Printing of the First Edition. The fragile dustwrapper in complete and unclipped with a darkened spine even tanning and a small waterstain on the rear panel; in an archival plastic protector.
