Walter Zweig 1872-1953m"Nach dem Abitur am Brünner Gymnasium studierte Walter Zweig von 1890 bis 1896 Medizin an der Universität Wien das er 1896 mit dem Staatsexamen und der Promotion abschloss. Von 1896 bis 1901 erhielt er eine internistische Ausbildung bei Hermann Nothnagel an der I. Medizinischen Klinik der Universität Wien. Frühzeitig spezialisierte er sich für das neue Fachgebiet Gastroenterologie und war vorübergehend in Berlin bei Ismar Boas in dessen Klinik und Poliklinik für Magen- und Darmkrankheiten tätig. Seit 1902 war Zweig leitender Arzt Primarius der Abteilung für Magen- und Darmkrankheiten am Kaiser Franz Josef-Ambulatorium und Spital in Wien. 1929 wurde er Ärztlicher Direktor dieser Institution. Zweig habilitierte sich 1909 an der Universität Wien für das Fach Innere Medizin - speziell für Verdauungskrankheiten. 1932 erhielt er den Titel außerordentlicher Professor. 1914 - 1918 nahm er als Arzt im Militärhospital Nr. 2 in Wien am Ersten Weltkrieg teil. Walter Zweig gehörte zum engeren Freundes- und Schülerkreis um Ismar Boas. Von 1936 bis März 1938 unterstütze er seinen Lehrer Boas in Wien vielfältig soweit ihm eine Hilfe möglich war nachdem dieser 1936 Deutschland verlassen musste und in Österreich Zuflucht suchte. Nachdem die Deutsche Wehrmacht im März 1938 in Österreich einmarschiert war verlor Zweig mit dem 22.04.1938 seine leitende Position am Wiener Franz-Josef-Ambulatorium und Spital. Seine Lehrbefugnis wurde ihm im Juni 1938 entzogen. Flucht nach Großbritannien 1938 Walter Zweig floh gemeinsam mit seiner Ehefrau 1938 aus Wien nach London zu seinem Sohn dem Wirtschaftswissenschaftler Konrad Zweig der am Institut für Weltwirtschaft in Kiel tätig war und seit 1934 in England lebte. Walter Zweig wohnte 1938/39 in London Kensington Court 1942 bis 1947 in Oxford Woodstock Road bevor er nach London zurückkehrte. Zweig gehörte seit 1936 zum Kreis der Mitherausgeber des Archivs für Verdauungskrankheiten "Boas-Archiv" sowie der Nachfolgezeitschrift Gastroenterologia.
