No example of this mysterious original has ever been unearthed; no trace of it beyond Rodd's own statement has ever been discovered; and no mention of any kind either of its printing or distribution is to be found in the correspondence of Shelley or any of his friends. My own opinion is that no original ever existed that the private impression of twenty copies was a myth and that Rodd's so-called facsimile reprint of 1843 is in fact the actual princeps of the Address."<br/>Political essay arguing that the death of Princess Charlotte in childbirth was "a private grief" while the execution of three weavers for high treason in Derbyshire was a national tragedy.<br/>"The execution of Brandreth Ludlam and Turner is an event of quite a different character from the death of Princess Charlotte . Sir Percy who inherited the family baronetcy in 1844 on the death of his grandfather also inherited his father's papers on the death of Mary Shelley; he and his wife Jane Lady Shelley created at Boscombe Manor something of a shrine to the poet's memory and had much to do with shaping the Victorian cult and myth of Shelley. Margaret Shelley 1801-1887 who owned this copy prior to her nephew was one of the poet's four younger sisters. The book combines two novels by Griffin issued together for this second edition the year after their first appearance. This volume constitutes the first collected edition of Keats and only the second collected works of Coleridge & Shelley although only volume 1 issued in 5 parts of the 1826 edition of Shelley's works was issued and the edition was not completed and contains works published here for the first time from all three poets. Each poets work is preceded by a short life of the author. The memoir of Keats is by Leigh Hunt. Although Keats' literary executor Charles Armitage Brown disliked Hunt's portrayal of his friend his own account of Keats life was not ready in time for this edition and would not see publication for another 108 years in 1937. He did however send some unpublished poems in his possession for inclusion in the volume. The memoir of Shelley was written by Mary Shelley who also helped the publication of this edition by allowing the publisher access to his papers. Although this volume was published by the Galignanis in Paris avoiding the British copyright and meaning no royalties would be due they did have the co-operation of family members and literary friends of all three poets when assembling this impressive volume.;. 1268602.
