Contemporary tree calf bordered in gilt with gilt decoration to spine maroon and black leather title labels; marbled endpapers. Lightly worn at edges and spine with each volume having the 18th century bookplate of A Walker Newry at front. Small chip and start of plit in letaher at top of front hinge and light toning to preliminaries; some offsetting from engraved title to previous blank fly leaf slightly rough eadges to engraved title of Vol III. Beautifully figured tree calf. These three volumes represent the poetical works of John Dryden 1631-1700 and are numbered 40 41 and 42 on the spine gilt worn. Dryden was a poet and dramatist who dominated literary life in the latter half of the 17th century becoming Poet Laureate in 1670. A most attractive little set.
