19072240370Philadelphia PA: George Barrie & Sons 1907. Salesman Sample Dummy . Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Rare salesman sample copy of the original 1907 publication bound in full leather with flexible boards. Exterior is in its original state and unrestored. There is where to the leather along edges and the spine is brittle and cracking. Lower outside edge is also darkened and black almost like it was too close to a heat source. The internal binding is in better condition: there is marbled end pages in front and rear which also has two samples of the various binding styles one in banded leather and the other in green cloth with label. The book itself is only random pages mainly the color illustrations with the tissue guards that show descriptions. There is some pulling and spots but everything is still attached. Pages are toned and there is spotting and foxing present with some areas showing a lot of staining in the gutters. IMPORTANT: this is NOT the entire book - this is a salesman sample that was used to promote purchasing the book. There is no order sheet and the rear as many salesman copies have. This was likely used in a retail store to show the quality of the prints so people may order the set. This particular salesman copy shows the title page for volume 1 Greek Women but the examples of the illustrations appear to be from a collection of all the volumes. The book itself is unpaginated as this is a sample of various parts of all 10 volumes.

George Barrie & Sons hardcover
