1921LA500<p><strong> ADVERTISING - ORIGINAL DRAWINGS </strong></p><p><strong> ARCHIVES<br />OF A 1920s ADVERTISING ILLUSTRATOR </strong></p><p><strong>Archives of the illustrator Jo Ménard</strong><br />Le Mans c. 1921-1925</p><p>A collection comprising <strong>63 drawings on thick paper</strong> in black & white and occasionally blue pencil along with <strong>one newspaper clipping and three advertising brochures</strong>. Includes handwritten annotations on the drawings or on the reverse.</p><p>An <strong>important collection</strong> of original drawings by <strong>advertising illustrator Jo Ménard</strong> whose agency was located at <strong>42 rue Raspail Le Mans</strong>. Some drawings are accompanied by their published versions advertising brochures newspaper advertisements or glossy paper prints.</p><p>Signed <strong>"Jo Ménard" "JOM" or "REX"</strong> most of these drawings bear a stamp reading <strong>"ILLUSTRATION & PUBLICITÉ J. Ménard – Le Mans"</strong> along with <strong>technical notes and handwritten instructions</strong> by the artist for publication some drawings include print sheets on the reverse intended for the printer such as <strong>Imprimerie-Papeterie Godfroy-Buron 6 place de la Préfecture Le Mans</strong>.</p><p>Examples of instructions include:</p><ul><li><em>"Make a line engraving on zinc. Apply shading dots</em> to the blue-colored part of the drawing but do not add it to the woman's arm. Reduce to 0.075." <em>on the reverse of an illustration for Hardyau watchmaking and jewelry</em></li><li><em>"Cut out the engraving without exceeding the dimensions.
