Elizabeth von Arnim 1866Ã1941 an English novelist born Mary Annette Beauchamp in Australia married a German aristocrat and her earliest works are set in Germany. Her first marriage made her Countess von Arnim-Schlagenthin and her second Elizabeth Russell Countess Russell. After her first husband's death she had a three-year affair with the writer H. G. Wells then later married Frank Russell elder brother of the Nobel prize-winner and philosopher Bertrand Russell. She was a cousin of the New Zealand-born writer Katherine Mansfield. Though known in early life as May her first book introduced her to readers as Elizabeth which she eventually became to friends and finally to family. Her writings are ascribed to Elizabeth von Arnim.1 She used the pseudonym Alice Cholmondeley only for a novel Christine published in 1917. William Heinemann hardcover

Text block laid in being detached from binding. Title page has a 1" closed tear no paper loss - see photo at margin. An eleven 11 page "War Working" WWII story at end of book using Mother Goose characters - A patriotic little story ending with "'Victory Work Shop to start our Victory War Work". Dust jacket mirrors book boards is complete with #602 on top of front flap but no price. A thumb size stain on front jacket on red roof not impacting title. A 1" closed tear at top front of jacket with other small chips and creases overall. A hard to find forgotten item/ title. A very unusual item. Priced to reflect its blemishes.
