A scarce spoof aimed squarely I suspect at the student market of the time. Part One attaches cartoons to Horatian texts/quotes in latin with the pictorial content mainly set in what looks like Victorian Oxford. Part Two gives a similar treatment but in English to the adventures of Ulysses. Publisher's pictorial paper covered boards red leather spine. Boards very dust stained and rubbed at edges. Spine sound but with heavy wear to splitting front joint and ends. Text and plates shaken or loose but generally clean. Collation is difficult no pagination no signatures.This copy has a general title page identical to the design on front board a title page to pt. 1 Nugae Horatianae with a tinted vignette a tinted plate of the gods at dinner 'Grata testudo Jovis' a dedication leaf then a series of 30 full page plates. Pt. 2 follows with a vignette title page 'Homer composing' a 2 page list of plates then a series of 27 plates. There is an extra plate in this total which does not appear in the published list. Date annotated to upper corner in contemporary hand. Repair to tear approximately 4cm a little light soiling to edges. A very good copy. Handbill voicing the demands of trade unionist miners towards their employers and requesting aid from local residents. The handbill was produced in the context of workers of 'Hepburn's Union' engaging in a strike in 1831 which was ultimately successful and would go on to be the model for other miner's unions.
