A set of bound religious work on human nature religious mania and enthusiasm to which is bound an exploration into baptism and a sermon from Reverend E. B. Pusey. Natural History of Enthusiasm is the second edition published a year after the first and includes chapters such as; Enthusiasm Secular and Religious Enthusiasm in Devotion Enthusiasm of Prophetical Interpretation and Sketch of the Enthusiasm of the Ancient Church. Tracts for the Times explores the scriptural view of baptism as established by the consent of the ancient church and contrasted with the systems of modern schools. Reverend E. B. Pusey's sermon was performed in Oxford Cathedral on the fourth Sunday after Easter in 1843. In a half calf binding with marbled paper covered boards and gilt design to the spine. Externally a trifle rubbed with the front board held by the cords only. Internally firmly bound with bright pages and the odd spot which is heavier to the endpapers. "Printed at Rouen by Nicetas Periaux"; pp. xvii 3 152; steel engraved frontispiece portrait of Napoleon with tissue guard and lithograph of "Rouen from the heights of St. Catherine" lithographed by Champin with original tissue guard; half-title bound in immediately before first page of main text. Contemporary half black polished calf with marbled boards very good and strong with a little rubbing and marking. Contents good and tight endpapers somewhat dust soiled with previous signature erased from front free end paper. Text with some localised finger soiling a few pages more pronounced severa pages with light marginal staining lower blank corner to pp. 105/106 pinched off. Overall a very good copy of this rare Napoleonic title. The introduction reads "The Following Poem was written on the heights of St-Catherine as the remains of Napoleon passed up the Seine and the author endeavours to concentrate in a poetical form the feelings which that event naturally suggested.". 18195248London: Baldwyn & Co. Newgate Street 1819. First edition. Contemporary hand colouring. Satirical depiction of a man on a chair reading in front of the fireplace. On the table beside him on the mantel and scattered on the floor are books. Those scattered are important and educational such as Newton and other scientific treatise. We have seen archival references that this print is known as "The Half-Wit. wasting his time on a poor choice of reading material." The implication is that he is wasting his time in his reading material. Below the title is printed "Luctantar paucae comedunt coliphia paucae." This is a paraphrase of a line in Juvenal's satires which means few fight and few reap the reward. Presumably a comment on the importance of learning. We can find no other copiesof this item currently for sale. The sheet has been pasted onto a backing board and at some point in a frame. The edges are slightly nicked where removed from the frame. The sheet is mainly clean but the page a little darkened. Image is 15cm x 13cm. Sheet is 27cm x 21cm. Conforms to WorldCat / OCLC: 701901036. The only library holding is in the Yale University Lewis Walpole Library. . Première édition. Coloriage à la main contemporain. Nous avons vu dans les archives que cette gravure est connue sous le nom de "The Half-Wit le demi-esprit. qui perd son temps avec un mauvais choix de lecture". L'implication est qu'il perd son temps dans ses lectures. Sous le titre on peut lire "Luctantar paucae comedunt coliphia paucae". Summer romances the hazards of the communal dining table days of genteel ennui and other activities with the first names of the participants indicated as a partial aid to social historians a few of them are named in pencil on the title page are described in double columns of rollicking verse narrative and accompanying plates. 1875LTH20-C-15London: Privately Published c1875. Leather. Good. 10" by 7.5". Not Stated. A mounted collection of plates taken from a work by Gottfried Ehrenberg. With a letter explaining the origin of this volume. Consisting of 30 photographic plates believed to be photographs of the original plates in the work by Ehrenberg. The letter explains that the negatives have been scrapped and that this mounted copy is the only one remaining to the original compiler. Fortsetzung der mikrogeologischen Studien from which the plates originate is a work by German naturalist and microscopist Christian Gottfriend Ehrenberg. It is considered to a continuation of Ehrenbergs great work Mikrogeologie focusing particularly on the Radiolarian collections from Barbados. For nearly 30 years Ehrenberg examined samples of water soil sediment and rocks and described thousands of new species. He was particularly interested in diatoms but also studied and named many species of Radiolaria foraminifera and dinoflagellates. After his death in 1876 Ehrenberg's collections of microscopic organisms were deposited in the Museum fur Naturkunde at the University of Berlin. The Ehrenburg collection includes 40000 microscope preparations 5000 raw samples 3000 pencil and ink drawings and nearly 1000 letters of correspondence. In a half morocco binding.
