Yellow paper dust jacket with black image and writting and blue coth hadcover with gold lettering on cover and spine. The jacket has wear and small tears to most all sides and a small corner is missing on top of the back cover/spine. Jacket does have some marks and discoloration and the image on the front has some patchy fading. The dust jacket has been wrapped to prevent and further damage to it. Cover of book is in very good condition. Page ends have a couple of water droplet marks and frist couple pages are slightly wavy so they may have gotten wet sometime in its past. Previous owner's name in on the inside of the front and back cover. The auther has signed the title page under her printed name no inscription. Other than that the interior of the book appears to be in excellent with no other marks or notations. Please note that this is Volume II only. ; 10 3/4" x 7 1/2"; Signed by Author . Created funded and operated by the federal government the volumes document the story of the railroad from preliminary surveys to the period of construction through the period of neglect through two world wars reconstruction modernization etc.through 1964. First Printings Both volumes of this two volume set are in fine condition in dark blue cloth covered boards with bold gilt text on the spine and on the front boards. Both are small quartos of 10 1/2 by 7 inches with a sewn and rounded and backed binding with a hollow back spine. Both volumes are in very good unclipped dust jacket no price with a 1/8" deep chip at the upper edge of the spine area on volume 1 slight tanning to the spine areas of both and with light soiling at the fore edges of the panels on both books. Signed warmly inscribed and dated in 1965 by the author on the title page. This set is numbered 74 on the title page of volume 1 out of a first edition print run of only 1000 copies. Volume 1 contains 466 pages of text and is extensively illustrated from black and white photographs throughout. Volume 2 contains pages 467 to 1092 and illustrated as above. The two volumes contain over 2100 photographs and line drawings. The first edition of this title was limited to 1000 and according to the colophon of volume 2 it was almost sold out as of May 1966.
