Franz Karl Delavilla born 1884 in Vienna was studying at academy of performing arts in Vienna as pupil of C.O. Czeschka and Berthold Löffler from 1913 on professor at the academy of performing art in Magdeburg Hamburg and Frankfurt. The interchanges between the children speak to shortages of candles the destroyed family clock marching with guns children lined up for military service babies grown big enough for going to the war. 191529358Trier Germany: Schaar & Dathe 1915. 85 b&w postcards printed by Schaar & Dathe of Trier who were one of the biggest German postcard printers and used During W.W.I the company had 15 presses and employed 150 workers & used letterpress lithograph and collotype processes. Creating postcards during the war was an easy affordable way to spread the news visually about the areas most affected by combat through images of ruins life in the camps and the cleanup efforts of soldiers and civilians. All 24 cards are in non-adhesive transparent protective sleeves.</p><p><em>The Franco-British Exhibition was a large public fair held in London between 14 May and 31 October 1908. It was the first in the series of the White City Exhibitions. The exhibition attracted 8 million visitors and celebrated the Entente Cordiale signed in 1904 by the United Kingdom and France. The chief architect of the buildings was John Belcher. </em><em>The Exhibition was held in an area of west London near Shepherd's Bush which is now called White City: the area acquired its name from the exhibition buildings which were all painted white. 1919227911919. Painting. Very good condition. A group of 12 hand-painted postcards depicting women's fashion in the 1920s. The 5 artist signatures include "Rucio" "Orcina' and "Susie" with 2 undecipherable. All are in the style of the pochoir fashion magazine "Le Gazette du Bon Ton". On the verso is the standard postcard information for France "Carte Postale. La Correspondance au recto n'est pas acceptee par tous les pays etrangers Se renseigner a la poste" with a split back the address on the right and room for correspondence on the left. Two cards by "Susie" are charming - one woman is dressed in a blue sailor's suit the duffle bag slung over her shoulder with the notation "U.S.A.". In the other the young woman is wearing a short pink and blue striped outfit holding a nest of eggs the suggestive caption saying "Nous aussi nous retrouverons bientot notre cher petit nid!" We will also soon find our own little nest! The outfits are charming. Pencil inscription on some identifying the buyer as 'Mich' an American serviceman perhaps who presented the cards to his lady friend who is as "pretty as" the pictures. The postcards are unused printed on heavy rag card with untrimmed edges. unknown

A sweet set of color postcards of various stages of the honeymoon featuring a boy in a straw boater and the girl in large red feather hat. 8 in the set with titles like "Tying the Knot" "They're Off!" "In the Clouds" "The First Spat" etc. Of the 8 5 are postmarked in September 1907 by a honeymooning couple Bessie and Claude as they travel through the Thousand Islands Niagara Falls and Toronto and mailing to Bessie's mother in Clarendon Virginia. <br /> 8 color postcards splitback vgc. 193824708Japan 1938. Ephemera & postcards. Very good overall. Album comprising 100 cards with embossed illustration of a gun-toting soldier on the cover and with a map printed inside the cover showing Japanese territory in China. The postcards are mostly colored artist postcards many stamped and mailed and almost entirely of Chinese locations. Presumably put together by a Japanese soldier with the occupation force in China. Fortunately the album consists mainly of artists' cards of places and doesn't have any of the images of atrocities committed against the conquered Chinese. Illustrated printed color postcards include many of military life: cavalry units soldiers bathing in hot tubs soldiers relaxing in courtyards a soldier standing in city street soldiers at drill and a seaplane. One card with printed signature T. M. Kauri ; another signed T. Hazma and dated 1938. Other printed color post card subjects include landscapes both Japanese and Chinese Mt. Fuji temples temple gates Japanese beauties one waving a Japanese flag lake and mountain views pagodas industrial river sites river families in their junks Japanese gardens and Chinese walled cities. Color and b&w printed photographic post cards include: mountain landscapes waterfalls temples cherry trees in blossom and traditional architecture. A real albumen picture post card shows a seated group in Western clothes the man at the left a military figure in an outdoor thatched roof gazebo. <br /> <br /> Oblong 8vo 8 1/2 x 5 1/4" cord bound. Dark blue pictorial embossed boards with red embossed entry gate in fortress wall embossed Japanese soldier and Japanese lettering. Faint damp stain mostly top edge early leaves only; chipping to lower corners of album pages only; the postcards clean and bright. unknown

Very good exemplars enclosed in a small plastic presentation folder provided with twenty clear pockets of 6x4 inches each to contain two back-to-back cards of which three contain one card only and another none at all the rest filled to capacity. There are 13 b&w cards the rest 22 are in color or colorized. Good ones! especially the fancy color items. Spot-checking suggests that this was an active collection not a group purchased en masse as the terminal card is marked discreetly "$1.00" in pencil. Most unused though a couple have greetings/portage/postmarks to verso. promotional office unknown

A small curated collection of 22 real photo post cards RPPCs most of which depict range-riding branding round-up Texas Arizona etc. roping breaking a horse or just being asked to pose for a photograph. One is colorized. Five postcards are canceled with a 1¢ stamp; postmarks from North Dakota Wyoming 20 Iowa and Nevada. Most are dated before or around 1910 with the exception of one more commercial card dated 1937. Seven postcards have some sort of identifying writing on the back - either person-or-place names and nine postcards are blank. <br /> <br /> Some of this fabulous grouping of photos of real working cowhands are just begging to be framed and hung on a wall. unknown

Put Up Especially for Yellowstone Park Store George Whittaker Proprietor Yellowstone Park Wyoming". <br /> <br /> George Whittaker was involved with Yellowstone over a long period having been stationed as a soldier at Fort Yellowstone in 1891 having worked as a civilian scout from 1897 to 1909 and as an agent for the Yellowstone Transportation Company. In 1913 Whittaker bought the store and operated it for 20 years adding a gas station in 1915. <br /> <br /> The postcards numbered at the lower left captioned and with descriptive text at verso. Most by HHT Co; others with copyright H. H. Tammen Co. stamped on front upper edge.<br /> Tammen specialized in national park rodeo and western items. Harry Heye Tammen established the firm of H. H. Tammen & Co. in 1881 in Denver Colorado. The company focused on creating souvenir mineralogical curiosities but also sold photography silver souvenir spoons and similar items. In 1895 Tammen became editor of the Denver Post.; his company remained in business until 1953.<br /> <br /> Box lid slightly dusty splits at some corner seams but otherwise very sturdy. The postcards in immaculate condition. All postcards are unused with split backs. Each of the cards is captioned and numbered at the lower left corner. Box measures 6 x 4 unknown

While two are typical of the brag map genre the third chides Alaska's new position as the largest state. And the fourth which pictures a B-24 bomber in flight with a map of Texas in the background highlights Texas' contribution to the war effort by way of a new bomber production plant in Fort Worth. A tag shown on the postcard reads "Bound for Tokyo."</p><p>Condition: Four color postcards each measuring 3 ½ x 5 ½." One postally used the other three unused.
