1642 · 100000 — <p>12mo 5 ½ x 3 ¼ modern calf- backed marbled boards spine lettered in gilt lacking title leaf A2 but with additional engraved title A1 still present ii 329 3 pp. A few chips at the edges of the engraved title and incorrect date in ink at the foot of the engraved title lower margin torn and lacking on page 125 with the loss of a few letters similar loss of lower margin on page 259 some foxing else very good in a fine modern binding. This work was first published by Abbot 1562-1633 in 1599 and was reprinted several times over the next 50 years. Abbot was a notable educator and writer in his time but is best known for being an Archbishop of Canterbury. Abbot provides brief descriptions of Africa Europe and Asia but he also devotes over 80 pages on a discussion of the New World including both North and South America. He even provides a short discussion of the North and South Poles. Interestingly in the margin of page 157 is a manuscript note in an old hand describing Egyptian Pyramids.</p> Printed for Will.
