Prior to this only a partial history by Collett published in 1922 had documented the 28th. The 28th fought on Gallipoli and was one of the first Australian units in France fighting in most of the major battles on the western Front including Pozieres Flers Warlencourt Bullecourt Third Ypres Lagnicourt Morlancourt Amiens and Mont St Quentin.
