Binder's stamp of Sotheran to the verso of the front free end paper. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 18 plates. Collated complete. Jacques Bainville 1879-1936 was a French historian journalist and geopolitical theorist who was concerned by Franco-German relations and was a leading figure in the monarchist Action Française. This is his biography of Ludwig II 1845-1886 King of Bavaria from 1864 to 1886. In a half morocco binding. Externally very smart with bumping to the boards and a little rubbing to the extremities and to the head of the spine. Colour and gilt remain bright. Front hinge is strained but is holding firm. A brief history of France by Jacques Pierre Bainville 1879-1936 a French historian and journalist best known for his prophetic criticisms of the Treaty of Versailles. A geopolitical theorist concerned by Franco-German relations he was a leading figure in the monarchist Action Française. In publisher's original quarter cloth and pictorial paper boards with original glassine wraps. Externally very smart with just a little bumping to the extremities. Front board is slightly age toned with a scattering of spots but colour is still bright. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for some spotting to the fore edge and the first and last few pages. Early edition 22nd printing. Bainville a French political writer and historian was a leading exponent of Conservative ideas between the two World Wars. Signed presentation from Bainville to Max Dorian on the half title page. Max Dorain is the pen-name of author Bernard Doreau. Doureau wrote a well-known biography of the Du Pont family with photographs by his wife Dixie Reynolds. Also with a single-page autograph letter signed from Bainville presenting the book. With a lengthy one-page autograph letter signed untranslated apparently from Robert Poulet- the French polemicist writer and literary critic. "Robert Poulet" written in a shaky hand at the top of the letter. An interesting association copy! Near fine condition little wear to the original wraps; all letters have folds. $250.00.
