Autobiographical account of Black American Haywood Patterson's arrest for rape trial harrowing impisonment at an Alabama prison farm and in Alabama jails jungle law of survival sex life of the prisoners failed escape attempts and thrilling details of his ultimately successful escape. Patterson was one of the nine black boys falsely accused of raping two white prostitutes and sentenced to life imprisonment. An important early case in the Civil Rights movement. Bound in the original biege cloth stamped in black. Complete with terrific full color illustrated dust jacket signed "Reisie" in the plate. This is an account of a convict and his wife escape from an Australian penal colony a 3000 mile voyage recapture and James Boswell's defense of them. A fold out map illustrates the voyage. The map is in perfect condition. Includes a few other illustrations. 7" wide by 10.25" tall. Bound in the original printed paper-covered boards with a black cloth spine stamped in bright gold.
