On April 20 1959 the Senate established the Select Committee on National Water Resources authorizing it to study water resources activities in the United States . The committee solicited the States for their views on water resources issues holding extensive hearings throughout the country from Montana to Florida and from Maine to California. Included is the final Report of the Committee from the hearing January 30 1961 and most transcripts from the hearings which were published in separate parts by location in 1960 lacking Part 7 and Part 23. The Report is 147 pages; the additional parts comprise over 3000 pages with a number of maps charts fold-outs etc. Stapled self-wraps. Uncommon.; 5-3/4" x 9"; First page of each document has ownership stamps or marks staples are rusted a few creased corners and a few first pages soiled along the edge. Trägerkarton mit geringen Gebrauchsspuren sonst gut erhalten. Altersentsprechend guter Zustand. Es handelt sich hierbei um eine Dokumentation der mittlerweile historischen Wanderausstellung "Berlin - Die deutsche Hauptstadt" aus dem Jahr 1962. Verantwortet vom West-Berliner Senat ging die Ausstellung in den Jahren nach 1962 vielfach auf Reisen durch die damalige Bundesrepublik West-Deutschland und darüber hinaus. Die Berliner Ausstellung bestand aus Photographien Texten Schautafeln Karten Plänen und zahlreichen Exponaten aus der Berliner Stadt- und Kulturgeschichte in Vitrinen. Ziel der Ausstellung war die Darstellung der Berliner Entwicklung von der einst bedeutenden Reichshauptstadt bis zum zerstörten Berlin nach 1945 und zur seit 1961 sogar geteilten Stadt. Die Photographien stammen aus dem Nachlaß des Berliner Gebrauchsgrafikers Werner Gruschke. Er hatte diese auf Karton montiert und in einem Ordner zur Berliner Ausstellung sortiert. Mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit war Werner Gruschke zeitgenössisch an der Gestaltung der umfassenden Ausstellung mitbeteiligt und legte deshalb auch Wert auf eine Dokumentation der temporären Ausstellung. Da die Berlin-Ausstellung in zahlreichen Städten Westdeutschlands gezeigt wurde seit 1962 musste sie auch mehrfach ausgebessert ersetzt und durch neue Materialien verstärkt werden. Vermutlich hat sich die genaue Zusammensetzung der Ausstellung in den Jahren 1962-1964 auch verändert. Auch ist die Ausstellung unter dem Titel "Berlin - Bollwerk der Freiheit" in den Niederlanden und möglicherweise auch in anderen europäischen Ländern gezeigt worden. Wahrscheinlich ist daß es sich hier nur um einen bestimmten Teil - zum Beispiel um den Fokus "Berliner Teilung" - gehandelt hat. Enthalten sind insgesamt vierunddreißig Original-Photographien in verschiedenen Formaten: 104 x 14 cm / 115 x 175 cm / 172 x 235 cm. Die Aufnahmen zeigen mehrere der damaligen Ausstellungsräume mit Blick auf Tafeln und ihre Inhalte Vitrinen und sonstige Visualisierungen. Die Ausstellung reichte damals von preußisch-berlinischer Geschichte bis hin zur geteilten Stadt und umfasste auch Bereiche wie Architektur Kunst oder Porzellan. Die Wanderausstellung über das Berlin von 1962 - damals nur noch ein Schatten der einstigen Reichshauptstadt - wurde von weit über einer Million Menschen gesehen. Enthalten in der Dokumentation Gruschkes sind auch zwei zeitgenössische Zeitungsberichte über die Ausstellung und ihre Präsentation zwischen Schwarzwald und Den Haag. Von heute gesehen ein interessantes Stück neuerer Berliner Geschichte denn der Senat von West-Berlin präsentierte hier der bundesdeutschen und europäischen Öffentlichkeit auch ein neues Selbstverständnis der Stadt welche für Monarchie und NS-Herrschaft vor Augen stand und für letztere auch mit ihrer Zerstörung und sogar einer Teilung zahlte. This volume concerns the testimony of Matthew C. Brush who was president of the American International Shipbuilding Corporation and operated the Hog Island shipyard constructed in Pennsylvania in 1918-19. Typical GPO leather binding in red morocco. Leather is scuffed and chipped at spine ends. Hinges are good but starting to show signs of wear. Corners worn through. Laid-in are an invitation to a ship launching at Hog Island a VIP badge for the launch and a 1921 newspaper article describing the dismantling of "the biggest shipyard in the world. " ; 8vo . Three page typed letter on Senate letterhead plus an introductory typed page signed by the senator. "My dear Arthur: I am in receipt of your letter of recent date and appreciate your kind expressions in regard to my stand on the Armed Neutrality Bill. I am glad to say that the sentiment in Oregon as it is presented to me is overwhelmingly in favor of the position I have taken. I had hoped that we might be able to keep out of war. At any rate we had no right to deprive the people of their constitutional right to declare war. I am sending you enclosed a statement giving my reasons for wishing to secure some changes in this bill. We are being hastened into war. All the agencies of the press picture shows etc. are being used to build up sentiment in favor of war. With kind regards and best wishes from Mrs. Lane and myself I am . Very truly yours signed." That is from the introduction letter and it is dated March 28 1917. A little more than a week before we declared war on Germany. I don't have the original mailing envelope and this letter was mailed to a reverend in Albany Oregon. Cleanly and nicely folded in two places for mailing and with a slight fold crease at center.
