Souvenir booklet and program for the exhibition of Philippoteaux' massive circular panorama Le Siége de Paris. Philippoteaux completed his original panorama in 1872 when it becamse a cause célèbre in Paris; the Boston impresario T.E. Halleck commissioned a duplicate which he put on display in Boston beginning in 1875. The current program never mentions Phiippoteaux by name leading us to wonder whether Halleck may have commissioned artisan painters to execute the facsimile. A short address to the Bolivian people by newly elected president José Miguel de Velasco in 1839 denouncing the previous ten years of dictatorship under Andrés de Santa Cruz and encouraging belief in a better future. Velasco was president of Bolivia four times never for more than two and a half years. Faint fold lines a few tiny chips to extremities light soil else Very Good to Near Fine. Fortune-telling broadsheet regarding the fate of France following the Siege of Paris in September 1870. The author a certain "Doctor Refilando" predicted the event in an article in "La Conviccion" two days prior and the concluding list of predictions made on verso refer to his success as a soothsayer. Additional prophecies reproduced here include that made by a nun in Belley France in 1810; one made by another nun in Paris 1829; a prophecy made in the13th century in verse; and a list of fifteen made by Caesarius of Arles in the sixth century. Apparently unrecorded broadsheet adorned with an original woodcut depicting the Siege of Paris during that Franco-Prussian War. We find none in commerce or the auction records as of February 2020; nor separately catalogued in OCLC COPAC or KVK. Imp. Llorens unknown books

There have been fiercer battles fought larger territories involved in the conflict but never was there witnessed a more futile pretext for war blind imprudence in the aggressor or more consummate generalship & complete success on the opposite side ."<br/><br/><br/>Possibly by an American given references to Abraham Lincoln the American Revolution "the freest nation in the world" etc. A good candidatate might possibly be Henry Percy Litchfield see OCLC 10644238 of Long Island whose papers are in George Washington U with the Litchfield family papers and whose privately printed book THE FRANCO-GERMAN WAR OF 1870 Gracehill Brooklyn L.I. 1872 was among the earliest studies of the war. unknown books
