This a nice copy with a trace of rubbing a touch of shelf wear a tiny number in pencil on the front endpaper and the last several leaves with a slight corner bump.Possibly read once. On September 2 1940 five day before the continuous bombing campaign started she witnessed the beginning of the Blitz when 300 German bombers and 600 escorting fighters arrived over London. Although miles away she could see that ""the East End were getting it. we could see the miniature silver planes circling round the target area in such perfect formation that they looked like a children's toy model of flying boats or chair-o-planes at a fair . Presently we saw a white cloud rising; it looked like a huge evening cumulus billowing outwards and always upwards . The cloud grew to such a size that we gasped incredulously; there could not ever in history have been so gigantic a fire"" pp. 13/14. First working part time Barbara Nixon later became one of the first women to be employed as a full-time Air Raid Warden in London. Barbara Nixon was active in the Labour Party whilst her husband Maurice Dobb was a Cambridge historian and Communist. His house ""St Andrews"" in Chesterton Lane was a frequent meeting place for Cambridge communists and known locally as ""The Red House"". In the original dustwrapper unclipped priced $12.50 on front flap toned at margins with a bit of rubbing at extremities; Very Good. A significant association copy inscribed by Nixon to his long-time friend and political adviser the conservative journalist Ralph de Toledano 1916-2007. Toledano was a notable figure in Nixon's 1950 California Senate campaign regularly appearing at rallies and speaking on the candidate's behalf. Later as Vice President Nixon penned the introduction to Toledano's 1960 book Lament for a Generation and Toledano later occupied a key but unofficial advisory role in the Nixon White House. Signed copies of The Real War are by no means a rarity and all are signed on pasted-in bookplates but copies with real association value are far less common. Warner unknown

Vice President Dick Nixon writes to Life magazine photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt about the recent goodwill tour of Mexico Cuba El Salvador and Honduras. Eisenstaedt accompanied the party as photographer. The issue of LIFE for 28 February 1955 carried a feature on 'The Muy Simpatico Mr. Nixon' with his photographs. Two letters: the first dated 6 April reads "Mrs. Noxon and I greatly enjoyed having you with us and we both thought that the picture story in Life was outstanding in every way. I don't know when another trip will be scheduled but you can be sure that we would be delighted to have you with us again ." The second dated 16 June reading in part ". thoughtful of you to send us so many of the colored slides you took on the Central American tour. . You have been traveling since we last saw you! . I'd like to hear about your latest trip. ." With the carbon copy of Eisenstaedt's letter to Nixon dated 12 May 1955 headlined Addis Ababa in ballpoint pen giving a brief summary of Eisie's travels "since I left you in Honduras" With an invitation from Vice President and Mrs. Nixon to a reception at Blair House on Wednesday 2 February 1955.
