'Edâ tezkiresi' is a summary document written between the government organs and important people in the Ottoman bureaucracy. He has been considered by many to be one of the most brilliant orators of all time and a masterly French stylist. Court preacher to Louis XIV of France Bossuet was a strong advocate of political absolutism and the divine right of kings. He argued that government was divine and that kings received their power from God. He was also an important courtier and politician. The works best known to English speakers are three great orations delivered at the funerals of Queen Henrietta Maria widow of Charles I of England 1669 her daughter Henriette Duchess of Orléans 1670 and the outstanding soldier le Grand Condé 1687. Near contemporary Italian vellum edges speckled; contents clean only some slight foxing at front and back of volume. Few lines of contents written in Italian script on front free endpaper and signed G. Viparelli on title. <br/><br/>The rise of obstetrics in the early modern period had a mixed effect on midwifery. Some midwives clung to their traditional ways. Others embraced the new science and sought retraining. National policies also shaped the contours of midwifery practice. Overall the art of midwifery could no longer be considered a subdivision of medicine but must be regarded as a branch of surgery requiring a thorough knowledge of surgical principles. The title of this work does not indicate its comprehensiveness; it is more than an operative midwifery for it includes much that belongs to a general treatise on the subject. Rastrellis work and portrait cannot be found elsewhere suggesting it is commonly an addition to texts and the title translated is a moral and civil work directed by a father to his son. Rastrelli was a noted poet in the latter half of the 18th century. While both parts are exceedingly rare the first is only located at the Wellcome Library and the Biblioteca della Fondazione Biblioteca San Bernandino in Italy. 1750378AG1750. London for "The History and Survey of London from its Foundation to the Present Time." c. 1750. Handcoloured Copper Engraving. Beautifully Framed. Size of frame with engraving: 43.5 cm x 33.5 cm. Size of the actual engraving: 36 cm x 24 cm. Frame with some minor signs of wear rubbing to the frame with some discoloration. The engraving in excellent conditon with only faint signs of a former fold to upper left corner. The London Charterhouse is a historic complex of buildings in Smithfield London dating back to the 14th century. It occupies land to the north of Charterhouse Square. The Charterhouse began as and takes its name from a Carthusian priory founded in 1371 and dissolved in 1537. Substantial fragments remain from this monastic period but the site was largely rebuilt after 1545 as a large courtyard house. Thus today it "conveys a vivid impression of the type of large rambling 16th century mansion that once existed all round London". The Charterhouse was further altered and extended after 1611 when it became an almshouse and school endowed by Thomas Sutton. The almshouse a home for gentlemen pensioners still occupies the site today under the name Sutton's Hospital in Charterhouse. Wikipedia unknown

Spine covers mostly lacking with all boards detached although volume 1 front board has been repaired with paper tape between the title page and page i. Boards scuffed and edgeworn but retaining some charm. Marbled endpapers. Title page text is clipped at the outer margins with the imprint's final two letters affected. Contemporary reader autograph 1804 to flyleaves. The text blocks remain strong and clean on the whole showing only the expected faint foxing and offsetting of age. A complete and serviceable set.
