Opening with a short "History of Anaheim" the brochure quickly moves into the many advantages the city offers: the walnut and fruit groves the stately homes the climate the schools etc. <br /> <br /> Profusely illustrated with five full-page one page with two plates and twenty-one in-text half-tone illustrations and one map this slim volume provides a fascinating glimpse into the Anaheim of 115 years ago before "progress" and Walt Disney changed it forever. <br /> <br /> As of this writing we see only a single copy online and our search of OCLC locates only four copies; not listed in Rocq.<br /> <br /> ___DESCRIPTION: Staple-bound with brown heavy paper wraps embossed black lettering on the front wrap title page with a styled "T" inset and with all lettering surrounded by a thin ruled border the volume opens with one of the full-page halftones captioned "Looking East on Center Street" showing horse-drawn carriages and an unpaved street a total of twenty-seven different plates and one "Map of Orange County California Made By S.H. Founded in 1831 it closed its doors on Christmas Eve in 1935. At one time it was the largest center of production of cotton denim fabrics in America. Information written in French on the factory and its employees various parks Lake Massabesic Mount Uncanoonuc reasons that one should stay in Manchester advantages for business etc. Profusely illustrated with pictures of important buildings churches streets schools monuments parks scenery agricultural scenes numerous pictures of the interior of the factory etc. At top of title pages is written in blue ink "Property of Walter S. Wheeler 790 Amherst St. Manchester N.H. U.S.A." Title page lightly soiled and interior spine is neatly reinforced with archival tape along with light wear to the extremities of the covers. Very good. This is one of the early books on May 1 in Turkey printed by the Turkish Revolutionary Workers' Confederation of Trade Unions. Cover art illustrated by Turkish painter Orhan Taylan 1941-. In the Ottoman Empire the first celebration of Labour Day was organized in Skopje in 1909. In Istanbul Labour Day was first celebrated in 1912. No celebrations could be organized between 1928 and 1975. On 1 May 1976 the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions of Turkey DISK organized a rally on Taksim Square with mass participation one year ago "Bloody First May" which was an attack on leftist demonstrators on 1 May 1977 International Workers' Day in Taksim Square Istanbul Turkey. This booklet was printed for the commemoration of this celebration. Orhan Taylan was born in Samsun to an artist mother in 1941. Graduated from Robert College 1960 and the Fine Arts Academy of Rome 1965. First solo painting exhibition in 1968. Took leading positions in artists' organizations 1975-1978. Organized mural painting symposiums and executed several murals 1976-80. His paintings were exhibited in London Amsterdam and Moscow within Turkish Highlights exhibitions between 1988 and 1990. Aside from regular exhibitions in Istanbul and Ankara his works were also shown in solo gallery exhibitions in Paris New York Geneva and Athens. Orhan Taylan exhibits mainly figurative oil paintings and occasionally metal sculptures and drawings. Lives and works in Istanbul. During the 1971 Military coup taken in custody on summer midnight together with his wife and cartoonist Tan Oral. All his archives and hundreds of books destroyed. 1977 Group exhibitions in Paris and Berlin. The May 1 poster wins 1st prize in the International Poster Competition of the World Federation of Trade Unions Prag. Source: Turkish Painting - Visual Art Encyclopedia. II. First edition No. 265 of 550 sets mirroring the publication of the Hudson’s Bay Record Society Series but only 500 were available for sale originally of the letters by Dr. John McLoughlin Chief Factor of Fort Vancouver during the period represented here. These letters provide invaluable glimpses of the inner workings of the Fur Trade Pacific Northwest Indians Customs Social History and the political struggles of the time. McLoughlin had been a partner with the North West Company fur traders until merged into the Hudson’s Bay Co. and was appointed Chief Factor to the Columbia District and originally placed at Fort George Astoria but in 1825 moved to Fort Vancouver and constructed by the Company. He directed the fur trapping expeditions throughout the region regularly interacted with the local Native American tribes and aided American missionaries when they first arrived as well as exploiting advantages in what would become British Columbia and Alaska against the Russians. Contents include three original gelatin silver photographs 8 x 10 inches a 16-page price list dated 1956 and a single sheet price schedule dated 1960. The envelope is tattered around the edges and has two interesting cloth tape repairs; price lists have acid discoloration but are otherwise crisp. The three photos have slightly different print qualities suggesting they may have been produced at different times all have light toning and bumping at the corners but are in VG condition. <br/><br/> unknown

First edition of this scarce price list from the famed F.C. Taylor Fur Company in St. Louis which was one of the major fur industry companies from 1870 into the 20th century and was one of the largest manufacturers of traps and trapping equipment. During the opening decades of the 20th century there were skyrocketing prices for furs driven by the fashion market especially the more affordable ones such as mink skunk raccoon muskrat opossum and wild cat.
