Publisher's faux morocco red cloth with silver lettering in front. Original hanging ribbon present and in good condition. At first glance this item appears to be in such fine condition that we worried it was a facsimile but it is not. A gorgeous copy.The L. L. Brown Paper Company was founded by Levi Lawrence Brown in 1849. He was born in Adams in 1826 also the birthplace of Susan B. Anthony. After learning the paper trade at the Crane Mills in Dalton Brown started his own business manufacturing high quality ledger paper which he sold in major cities from coast to coast. Illustrated with thousands of black and white illustrations depicting everything that could have anything to do with horses as well as 11 chromolithographs; The title page 4 double sided advertisements and 6 single sided with tissue guard. The 4 double sided ads have 2 with color only on one side and 2 with color to both sides. Externally the brown cloth boards are worn faded and soiled. The cloth is separating from the boards at the front lower right hand corner and on the rear lower left hand corner. The top spine edge is torn on the right side and the bottom spine edge is frayed and worn. Internally the book is in wonderful condition. The pages are fresh and the color plates are in very good condition. A couple of the tissue guards are torn but still present. There are several pages with very small edge tears to the outside edge as if from turning the pages as the book is folio sized. Trade card for the most successful cigarette merchant in Egypt Nestor Gianaclis named after the man who founded the Egyptian cigarette industry in 1871 when he set up a factory in the Khairy Pasha palace in Cairo. Gianaclis' cigarettes made with imported Turkish tobacco became so popular with the British officers stationed in Egypt that the company began exporting to the UK and eventually to Europe and the US. With gilt text and gilt highlighted chromolithographic illustrations of 9 medals Bruxelles 1891; Paris Calcutta Toulon and two crests De S. Trade card for the renowned Dutch chocolate maker Van Houten which invented a treatment of cocoa to remove the bitter taste known as "Dutch process" chocolate. The inventions of Van Houten led to the mass production and world wide distribution of chocolate which took place in the nineteenth century. <br /> <br /> The front of the card with color map of Australia showing Western Australia Northern Territory South Australia Queensland New South Wales Victoria and Tasmania. The map shows Coolgardie but not Kalgoorlie. Verso with a dark green Art Deco border and Art Deco text font with data on Australia. Population is listed as 4006000. Below this is the heading "The six British Colonies united to form a Federation are": West Australia South Australia Victoria New South Wales Queensland Tasmania. Statistical information including the square miles and population are given for each of these colonies as well as the capital of each and its population. The company was founded in 1874; it had a factory in Limoges France and imported porcelain from Bohemian and Czechoslovakian factories. <br /> <br /> The plates are decorated primarily in brown and green- animals include tiger leopard stag elephant bear camel & lion. 9 1/4 x 15 3/4". Closed tear lower border lower left margin in the corner missing not affecting illustrated area. Very unusual. unknown

Arnold Plant declared that "the anonymous author of this tract should take his place with Ricardo J. S. Mill Longfield Mangoldt and Edgeworth as one of the outstanding exponents of the theory of international trade in the nineteenth century. His use of algebraic symbols in setting out the ratios between the quantities of commodities his method of ascertaining from these ratios which of a number of commodities can be most advantageously exported and imported his demonstration that the ratios used may be either those of quantities of different commodities within the same countries or of the same commodities in different countries will bear comparison with for instance Professor Viner's own lucid exposition well over a century later" Plant introduction to 1933 reprinting pp. 40-41. This promotional publication by the Wichita Board of Trade was published to counter the "malignant attacks" conducted by "powerful newspapers all over the country" who have "deliberately leveled their batteries at Wichita." The promotional contains an historical overview of Wichita in the cattle trade information on crops and capabilities of Kansas and calls Wichita "The Southwestern Metropolis." Illustrations include street cars telegrams churches private residences and schools. Containing also a directory of wholesale business information on Wichita's railroads and railway connections lists of industrial enterprises the meat packing centers the livestock market and information on taxes and building enterprises. In addition there are numerous advertisements for various businesses in Wichita. Light cosmetic touch-up to the spine and extremities by a master paper conservator else an attractive informational and scarce promotional for Wichita. Housed in a quarter leather and color decorated boards with raised bands and titles stamped in gilt on the spine. Not in Adams Herd. Not in Graff Eberstadt or Howes. OCLC locating only three copies. A really rare item in the London Chamber of Commerce's striking full morocco binding with watered silk endpapers and gilt dentelles.This is a commemorative volume produced by the Chamber to formally record and present an expression of gratitude to Albert G Sandeman for his work as Treasurer to the Chamber.Elegantly bound and signed by the president Albert Pollet chairman of the council W. H. Williams and secretary Kennie B. Murray it reflects the Chamber"s civic and mercantile culture in late Victorian London where ceremonial resolutions addresses and votes of thanks were preserved as tokens of esteem. In the publisher's original full morocco binding. Light rubbing to back strip otherwise externally excellent. Watered silk endpapers and gilt dentelles. Internally text block somewhat tenderly held.
