First edition of this scarce price list from the storied Weil Bros. fur trading company in Fort Wayne Indiana. During the opening decades of the 20th century there were skyrocketing prices for furs driven by the fashion market especially the more affordable ones such as mink skunk raccoon muskrat opossum and wild cat. Premiums were paid for mink beaver and especially otter. The Weil Bros. had initially established their business in 1870 and continued to operate for decades often issuing Trappers’ Guide books advertising in trapping and taxidermy magazines and issuing catalogues. A combination trade catalogue and cookbook produced by Philadelphia's Abram Cox Stove Company. Includes Bills of Fare for winter and summer dinners and advice on setting the table. The recipes are uncredited. The rear of the book includes an envelope pasted down and printed with "Use this pocket for clippings". ~ Internally clean and sound. In publisher's cream-colored oilcloth boards printed in navy blue. Some light adhesion to oilcloth corners slightly rubbed otherwise fine. Scarce. OCLC locates six copies. The author recounts the suppression of the foreign slave trade by England's Royal Navy with the help of Foreign Office records dispatches between naval commanders and slave trade commissioners Parliament debates and the logs of certain ships. First edition No. 265 of 550 sets mirroring the publication of the Hudson’s Bay Record Society Series but only 500 were available for sale originally of the letters by Dr. John McLoughlin Chief Factor of Fort Vancouver during the period represented here. These letters provide invaluable glimpses of the inner workings of the Fur Trade Pacific Northwest Indians Customs Social History and the political struggles of the time. McLoughlin had been a partner with the North West Company fur traders until merged into the Hudson’s Bay Co. and was appointed Chief Factor to the Columbia District and originally placed at Fort George Astoria but in 1825 moved to Fort Vancouver and constructed by the Company. He directed the fur trapping expeditions throughout the region regularly interacted with the local Native American tribes and aided American missionaries when they first arrived as well as exploiting advantages in what would become British Columbia and Alaska against the Russians. Originally mailed to a lady in Bromley Kent with her address details in ink twice on the front cover. A very fragile production this is copy is complete but worn in places with leaves toned throughout. The front cover has a superb advertisement: "Come to Hong Kong Kong/ The Riviera of the Orient/ Where the Winter is the Best in the World from October till April/ Unrivalled scenery." There is a panoramic view of Hong Kong island with the Peak behind and with a Chinese "junk" in the foreground. The rear cover is an advertisement from the Hongkong & Shanghai Hotels Ltd for their 3 hotels in Hong Kong: The Peninsula .commanding a world famous day and night view of the harbour and fantastic skyline of Hong Kong. Repulse Bay Hotel .the newest contender for the title of the most beautifully situated hotel in the world. and Hong Kong Hotel .the colony's indisputable social centre situated in the heart of the business and theatre district. Fully illustrated in black and white and half-tone illustrations of interior rooms fixtures doorways etc. The text outlines what lighting is needed for which tasks and rooms. The first page outlines a contest for children to study the book investigate their home and lighting cut pictures out of the fixtures and place them in the rooms illustrated in the catalog. Additionally write an essay of no more than 600 words.
