Ratramnus was a Benedictine monk during the 800s whose work contradicting the idea of transubstantiation was rediscovered by protestants after the reformation. William Hopkins 1647-1700 was an English clergyman Canon of Worcester and antiquary. Faint marginal dampstain to opening leaves light even browning throughout text signature of William Beattie 1795-1875 noted physician and travel writer on title. Overall a very clean attractive copy. Edited by John Selden from a manuscript in the Cotton Library this is the First Edition of Eadmer's most important work the "Historiae Novorum" a chronicle of contemporary events from the time of the Conquest in 1066 to the early 12 th century.
