The case decided the level of sovereign control native governments had on their own land. It determined that "the Cherokee nation then is a distinct community occupying its own territory in which the laws of Georgia can have no force. The whole intercourse between the United States and this nation is by our Constitution and laws vested in the government of the United States as opposed to Georgia." This decision would later be ignored and effectively nullified by subsequent governments as they sought to seize native territory. Gales and Seaton unknown

'. with Appendices Containing Forms and Precedents; Acts Relating to Coroners and Cases Decided by Supreme Court.' The ages are tanned and the end papers and following blank pages browned at the outer edge possibly from an open fire. The leather is rubbed. It's wost sin is that it appears as though at some stage the front board had become detached and has been reattached with wide book tape along the front hinge. Structurally it works brilliantly aesthetically it has left a gap along the spine and the actual board. Leather worn and split heavily chipped at spine ends. Scattered foxing and soiling to interior heavier at front and rear leaves. Lacking ffep pp 1-2 mended at inner edge. Brown ink ownership inscription "J. Vanderpoel's Copy" to half-title belonging to Dutch-American artist John Johan Henry Vanderpoel. News-clipped articles relating to the trial pasted in at front and rear with ink notations from previous owner marking the date. Boston Post article at front headlined: "End of a Famous Fraud - The Tichborne Claimant Arthur Orton Tells the Story of His Imposture" 1895 with adjacent article 1899 adhered to half-title: "Lunatic May Be Roger Tichborne." At rear from the New Bedford Evening Journal 1895: "A Tichborne Romance - A New and Plausible Claimant Appears in Australia - Story of Piracy and Madness." An account of the famous Tichborne fraud case and surrounding controversy in which "The Claimant" a man later discovered to be Arthur Orton came forward claiming to be the wealthy son of an English Baroness.
