Top edge gilt and fore edge uncut. Frontispiece portrait of Charlemagne Tower title page printed in red and black. 298 pp. A supurb copy fresh bright and tight. This copy has an engraved extra page presentation page from the Society to a recipient tipped in at the third front blank. Charlemagne Tower 1809-1889 a captain in the Civil War veteran and a prominent lawyer and businessman operating in Pennsylvania's Schuylkill Valley in the coal and railroad industries. He also acquired large tracts of land in the upper midwest and Northwest when the Union Pacific railroad sold off portions of its real estate holdings and is credited with the founding of the mining industry in Minnesota. Tower was also a noted collector of rare and valuable books with a particular interest in American colonial laws. At the time of his death in 1889 his was the largest such collection in the world and was given to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by his heirs. Reliure souple en plein parchemin Ouvrage au format in-4° (28 * 22 cm), CXXVII pages pour la préface et le sommaire puis 239 pages pour la transcription du texte et les notes et corrections qui commence à page 123. Couverture et dos conservés. Épopée en vers, la chanson d'Aiquin ou la conquête de la Bretagne par le roi Charlemagne, évoque la présence des vikings (appelés anciennement Normands) et de leur roi Aiquin (correspondant à Incon) « de nort pays » dans la région d'Alet (Saint-Malo, Saint-Servan, Rance) ainsi que dans l'estuaire de la Loire. Elle présente ensuite les différents épisodes de la lutte de Charlemagne et de l'archevêque de Dol, Ysoré (avatar de Wicohen, historiquement attesté au Xe siècle) pour les en chasser et de leur poursuite par le duc Naimes (probablement Nominoë) à travers toute l'Armorique, soit environ trois siècles après les faits. La seule copie connu a été retrouvé dans les ruines du monastère franciscain de l'île de Cézembre près de Saint-Malo ; Livraison a domicile (La Poste) ou en Mondial Relay sur simple demande.
