An abridged biography of the Catholic saint Élisabeth de Hongrie or Elizabeth of Hungary 1207-1231 ruler of Thuringia and a member of the Franciscan Third Order written by the French historian Charles Forbes René de Montalembert 1810-1870. Elizabeth of Hungary was known for her charity to the poor and for 'The Miracle of the Roses'. This biography was a success encouraging the publications of many other hagiographies. In a quarter calf binding. Externally fairly smart with some fading and shelf wear to the extremities and rubbing to the joints. Internally firmly bound. Pages are heavily spotted throughout.
